She's too scared to ask him where they're going as they raced through the forest at breakneck speed on the back of his horse.

The constant bouncing of the saddle didn't help the throbbing of her head and the drip-drip of blood down the side of her face.

She knew better than to complain, though, especially when her brother was this angry to begin with.

If she said one word about how much her head hurt, she'd only get another sharp object thrown at it, which wouldn't be ideal considering the only sharp object Maverick had on him was his sword.

Finally, finally, they slowed, stopping in the middle of a clearing, and it was only then that she worked up the nerve to open her mouth.

"M-Maverick? Why are we here?" She whispered.

"Get off the horse," was all he said, his flinty blue eyes narrowed.

She wasn't fast enough for his liking, so he shoved her and she fell to the ground in a heap, her head pounding with renewed vigor.

A shadow loomed over her, and she glanced up fearfully.

His hands were around her throat before she had the chance to scream.
