PDF Is A Handy Format But Securing It Using PDF Protection Software Is Something Else
PDF, which is short for "Portable Document Format" remains as the most commonly used document format because it is supported across all platforms. Unlike Microsoft Word, which is ideal for all sorts of documents and article writing, PDF has not been limited to Windows computers. However producing PDF was once extremely expensive, with Adobe Acrobat licensing costing as much as $1,000 and almost as much simply to update to the latest version. But today PDF can be created using a variety of other software, most of which is free, and some can be used on websites to convert PDF from other file types after upload to a web page.
Copy protection for PDF has similarly evolved with many different brands of PDF protection software being very much more secure than Adobe's software. Much of the bad name that PDF protection has inherited has come from Adobe PDF and other solutions designed to copy protect PDF but because of their limitations, are not as secure as they should be. The main limitation that they all face is trying to secure PDF on all operating systems and devices including amusement devices like mobile phones, which by design cannot secure much at all. Also, some PDF protection software has been designed to satisfy client requests where both the client and the software developer had little understanding of the many exploits at hand, or how to secure them.
Adobe could not prevent copy across all platforms and others using Adobe licensing for PDF resources could not prevent all methods of copy without surrendering the PDF document's contents to the simplest of hacks. So when ArtistScope extended their CopySafe software range to include the PDF file format, they focused only on the platforms that could be properly secured... Windows. When CopySafe PDF Protection software was released it could not be copied in any way, even by use of screen capture software, and when they added DRM to prevent sharing, again they did it their own way by ensuring that each time a PDF document was opened that the reader checked an online database for the latest permissions and security settings. That way DRM could not be removed and it could not be hacked. But even better, the live call-to-home validation gave authors more control over all aspects with immediate effect on any changes made. For example, if a subscriber defaults on payment or an employee leaves the company, their rights to open PDF documents can be removed and that even applies to documents already saved to the user's computer.
CopySafe PDF Protection software still offers the most secure and most robust security for PDF, but it is limited to use on Windows computers where it cannot be exploited. Mac users can run Windows via Bootcamp or Parallels. On a brighter note, any company running Mac computers should also have a Windows computer and throughout corporate networks, Windows is by far the most popular and most sensible choice.
So if you need to copy protect PDF to protect your corporate data and your livelihood, why look past CopySafe PDF Protection software?

Distributing intellectual property and corporate data in digital format poses a lot of problems with security and the distribution of that property to persons unknown. Unlike original hard copy documents, digital files are easily copied, easily distributed to others or even published online, and they last forever.

Which Website Protection Software Can Copy Protect PDF Online?
There are many solutions for copy protecting PDF distributed for desktop reading, but which ones can copy protect PDF that is displayed online from web pages?

Well if one is looking for protection from all methods of copy including PrintScreen and screen capture, there is only one website protection software for PDF and that is CopySafe PDF Protection. CopySafe PDF is unique in that respect because online copy protection requires web browser support which the current versions of all popular web browsers are incapable of providing. Firefox and Chrome used to be able to support copy protection controls at system level, but since 2015 they have opted to only support simple plugins based on HTML and JavaScript, which are useless for system level interaction.
However CopySafe PDF Protection is provided by the same company that provides the ArtisBrowser, a secure web browser specially designed to protect online content and media. Consequently the ArtisBrowser is not only optimized for use with CopySafe PDF but it includes the CopySafe PDF reader and browser plugins in its standard installation routine.
Both CopySafe PDF and the ArtisBrowser can prevent all copy methods in "protection mode" to provide the most secure website protection software for PDF documents online. The PDF documents are encrypted and domain locked to the web site, preventing their files from being used or displayed anywhere else except on the web pages of their owner's web site, thus making all PDF files stored on the server most secure. When viewed online the CopySafe PDF plugin decrypts the PDF document and displays it on its web page while activating "protection mode" to prevent screenshots and screen recording at system level on the user's computer.
The CopySafe solution was developed by ArtistScope as the first truly effective copy protection software for web content more than 20 years ago, and while the web, computer systems and web browsers have changed dramatically since, ArtistScope has kept abreast of those changes to support those needing copy protection and today provide CopySafe in different flavors to better protect the different the types of web media such as PDF, video, images and web pages.
The failure of popular web browsers to support copy protection was always inevitable as their intentions have always been to render web content for easy copy to be the more popular. ArtisBrowser had been evolving and getting more sophisticated by 2015 so when the popular browsers dropped out of the equation, it was actually a blessing because clients could no longer make the mistake of opting to allow web browsers that posed a threat to their security. Instead they can now use the ArtisBrowser to finally make their website protection more secure than ever possible before.
While the CopySafe solutions provide the most effective copy protection for their respective media, if the website is hosted on a dedicated or virtual server, then one can instead use the ArtistScope Site Protection Software (ASPS) which runs server side to deliver encrypted web pages for ArtisBrowser, creating a most secure tunnel between website and browser. ASPS is the most secure website protection software ever imagined and the best solution for privacy, data protection and copy protection where nothing can be extracted, even from browser cache, memory or by using packet sniffing software.

How To Add DRM To Protect Any Website Including WordPress Sites
Most site protection software does not include DRM, especially the high security copy protection solutions like the ArtistScope Site Protection System (ASPS) and the CopySafe copy protection software for images, PDF and video, because any additional layer for DRM, which limits access rights, could conflict with the member management systems already provided by CMS like WordPress , Moodle and others.
However the developers of ArtistScope Site Protection Software (ASPS) and CopySafe copy protection software have developed the means of adding DRM to CMS built websites that can remain independent of core membership management, but still manage access rights and be controlled by group access and expiration so that anyone with websites for online courses and e-learning can better manage online courses and subscriptions.
So regardless of whether you are using ASPS, CopySafe PDF Protection software or CopySafe Video Protection software, you can now add DRM to prevent sharing. Preventing sharing is most important for paid subscriptions because password protection is not a secure form of DRM as passwords can be shared. But the DRM provided by ArtistScope DRM and available as a WordPress plugin, adds an extra layer to member access that ensures that accounts cannot be shared. ArtistScope DRM identifies each member by unique computer ID, so once recorded, other users with a different computer ID cannot login and share the account. ArtistScope DRM comes as a two part solution. The front end can be added to any website and anyone with a WordPress website can simple install a WordPress plugin. For the backend, PHP support is required but it can on any web site, either the home website or a remote website. Any web site can run the front end by adding a couple of lines of code to the pages that you want to DRM protect. The WordPress plugin for DRM is the easiest to use, because you do not have to touch any web pages. To apply DRM to any web page on a WordPress site, all you have to do is nominate the URL or a keyword that is found in the URL such as "lesson". The only requirement is that site visitors wanting to access your DRM protected pages have to use the ArtisBrowser web browser because it is the only web browser that can uniquely identify each user and the only web browser that can support copy protection. ArtisBrowser is also the only web browser that can support PDF protection software that is safe from all exploits including PrintScreen and screen capture.

PDF Document Security Tricks : Keeping Website Data Secure In 2020
PDF is a commonly used document format for both desktop reading and online reading. However keeping the data within PDF secure is commonly misunderstood because many think that simply password protecting normal PDF will prevent anyone from accessing information that you may want to keep private and restrict to employees or otherwise privileged users. Unfortunately normal PDF cannot be secure and passwords can easily be extracted and shared.

When securing PDF documents for desktop reading it is much more secure when using DRM to limit access, especially DRM based on unique computer identity rather than a token file that can shared. Of course for any PDF security software to be secure and safe from exploits, the PDF file needs to be encrypted and a proprietary PDF reader used to validate the user's computer identity and allow access only when the author's requirements are met. Consequently generic PDF readers are not recommended and as a precaution, should not be able to decrypt and display any securely protected PDF. The same applies to secured PDF for online reading from a web page. The PDF file needs to be encrypted and its unlock password and keys protected. Consequently any online PDF viewer based on JavaScript alone will never be able to keep its unlock key secure, and again, the only recommended reader should be a proprietary web browser or browser plugin that will provide the only means of decrypting the PDF file and displaying its contents. To ensure that the PDF file itself cannot be downloaded and displayed on another web site, using encryption based on the domain name of the website can ensure that the PDF file can only be read from the intended website. For online reading, employing DRM similar to that used for desktop reading can cause conflicts and troubleshooting access failures can be a tedious and confusing chore. So in such cases, DRM is best left out of the PDF file and instead applied by access controls managed by the website itself. For example with CMS like WordPress and Moodle one has the choice of many different types of membership plugins, some integrated with pay to see and periodic subscription renewal, and some specifically designed for online tuition and course enrollment. Regardless of whether you use a PDF security software to encrypt and manage access rights to your PDF, or use a site protection software to protect normal PDF when embedded on web pages, care is needed when selecting the PDF viewer and the methods of display on the page, because while the PDF may be securely protected from copy while on display, the link to the PDF file's location, where it is stored online, can still be easily obtained and the file downloaded directly, thus evading any copy protection that may be applied to the web page. To prevent direct downloads when embedding normal PDF on web pages, it most recommended to "stream" the file so that the file's data is sent to the browser without providing the download link to visitors. Also, the PDF viewer that is displayed on the web page needs to be a custom viewer so that it is not accessible by Adobe Reader's plugin which provides permanent options for save, print and copy that cannot be removed or disabled. There are some interesting WordPress plugins that will take the PDF file and dissemble its contents for restructure and display on the web page as HTML to avoid using Adobe Reader resources. But be careful to disable those copy options in the viewer's toolbar. The security of any PDF protection or site protection software will be greatly enhanced by limiting visitor access to the ArtisBrowser web browser, because unlike all popular web browsers, the ArtisBrowser is specially designed to protect website content. While using the ArtisBrowser, view of source, copy-n-paste, save and print can be controlled by the site owner and data cannot be extracted from browser cache or memory.

Is Your Online PDF File Secure? Try ArtistScope PDF Security Software To Protect Your PDF With Full Encryption Security.
PDF security software takes many shapes and forms. But how secure are they from those who may want to copy and redistribute with authorization or promote the data and media within them for their own purposes?
Sure, the PDF software vendors may claim it to be protected using "military strength" encryption, but is it really secure? Or have those buzz words been simply borrowed from a competitor's website? And how has it been encrypted? Is the password to unlock that encryption simply stored in the encrypted (unprotected) header of the file? Or is the unlock key protected from extraction and embedded into the software of a proprietary reader? Can it be used for desktop reading only, or can it be used online as website protection software? Because there is one thing that you can be sure about is that if it is using a generic PDF reader then you are wasting your time thinking it is protected. And if the desktop reader app or the method used to display it on a web page is based on JavaScript then it can never be considered to be secure.
One needs to question all of these things when considering whether a PDF security software is worthwhile using, or if it is simply another knock-off imitating yet another copy protection software. Any PDF software that is indeed secure will be available for full evaluation without obligation.
The CopySafe PDF Protection software suite is available as a free download to convert and protect PDF for evaluation in the desktop reader. CopySafe PDF also caters for online web page display. In fact today it is the only PDF security tool that can be used on web pages that is safe from all avenues of copy and exploit. Unfortunately web page display requires a license for "domain lock" which is not available for demo purposes because the encryption key is based on the website that will display the protected PDF. However the demo download does provide a ready-made example that can be displayed at "localhost".
If a test server is not available on your local computer for running a test site at http://localhost then you can always visit the online examples that have been prepared for CMS like WordPress, Moodle, Drupal, Joomla and DNN. Those examples will show how protected PDF can be displayed and how secure they really are while displayed on web pages. Plugins are available for each of those CMS to add protected PDF to pages from their inline page editor.
Exploring CopySafe PDF Protection software demos will show why CopySafe is the preferred choice by professionals and the industry standard where the protection of intellectual property and livelihoods is paramount. Regardless of whether you are distributing by email, download or on disk for desktop reading, or publishing online and using CopySafe as website protection software, you will find that CopySafe solutions are the most sophisticated and most secure copy protection solutions that have ever been imagined.
