In honour of Officer Robert Wilson III, tonight I will post photos of North Philadelphia, the place I call home and the scene of tonight's fallen hero.

PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICER KILLED

Tragedy struck the City of Brotherly Love tonight when a Philadelphia police officer was killed during a shootout with robbers. The shooting happened at 1645 Thursday at the GameStop on West Lehigh Avenue and North 21st Street in North Philadelphia. Officer Robert Wilson III of the 22nd district was inside the store when two men entered and announced they were committing a robbery. After a round of gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and the officer, his partner rushed inside and also opened fire on the suspects. Officer Wilson III was struck three times, he was rushed to Temple Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 1825 this evening.

Robert Wilson III was an 8-year-veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department and leaves behind two children, a 9-year-old and a 1-year-old. Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said, “One of the best police officers this city has to offer period. A very, very brave and heroic individual.”

My heart goes out to Officer Wilson’s family, the Philadelphia Police Department, the City of Philadelphia, and all those who have been touched by this fallen hero. Tonight, our city has lost a protector, a painful reminder of how dangerous our streets are. Officer, Thank you for your service and may you find peace.
