Philosophy has provided an avenue for me to engage with art and aesthetics more critically. I am especially interested in everyday aesthetics, including popular culture, architectural design and technology focused on user experience.
Princeton University senior and philosophy major Monique Claiborne, who has been awarded a Luce Scholarship that will allow her to spend the next year in Asia. She hopes to pursue an internship in arts and entertainment in Seoul, South Korea, such as at a record label, film production studio or arts magazine.

Research without lab coats: For a Feb. 2016 production of “Elektra,” a Greek tragedy, Princeton University senior Julia Peiperl found inspiration in the image of a 1950s “brush doll” provided to her by the lead actress: brush on the bottom, doll on the top. Much like a document might inspire a historian to turn to the archives, this image led Julia to do more pictorial research, eventually settling on a time period (the 1950s) and a color scheme (pastels). Read more about Julia and Princeton Research Day in this blog post by senior Dylan Blau Edelstein on the Princeton Correspondents on Undergraduate Research blog.

So the thing I would offer is you don't always know in your brain how it's all going to add up. But, your heart knows what it wants to be doing next, and so a little bit of listening to the heart, and knowing that the brain will make sense of it later goes along way.
Jordan Roth, Princeton ‘97, president and majority owner of Jujamcyn Theaters, where he oversees five Broadway theaters. Read the interview by Lisa Einstein ‘13.

I urge you, please don’t settle for happiness. It's not good enough. Of course, you deserve it. But if that is all you have in mind—happiness—I want to suggest to you that personal success devoid of meaningfulness, free of a steady commitment to social justice, that’s more than a barren life, it is a trivial one. It’s looking good instead of doing good.
Toni Morrison, the Robert F. Goheen Professor in the Humanities, Emeritus, at Princeton, speaking before a group of college graduates at Rutgers University in 2011. Quoted in “Why We Should Never Settle for Meaningful” in the Jewish Journal, Jan. 11, 2017

"I played Zach Florrick on “The Good Wife.” I was homeschooled the first few seasons but when it came time for college, I was craving a 'normal' social experience and, ideally, an old Gothic campus that would make me feel academic enough to stay focused on learning about things not directly pertaining to my career for four years. Princeton was a great choice & I was happily surprised at how accommodating the University was with regard to my bizarre filming situation, which required me to go to #NYC to film a new episode just about every week.” Read more from senior Graham Phillips’ about his first foray into directing “Once” on this week’s #TellUsTigers. Last show tonight!
