Just found a quote from George Cole about Flash Harry and that he thought that "Harry had been conceived in the bushes around that school and had never been out in the wide wide world"
and something about that is just really sweet - like he is somehow an intrinsic part of the school along with the teachers, and is kind of a brother/uncle figure to the girls because he's grown up there like they have.
Also the idea that he acts like proper spiv with criminal contacts but actually is harmless and doesn't fully know what he's doing, but he knows the girls would have his back with hockeysticks if he ever got into trouble

Okay right I'm not even a big Harry Potter fan but I'm such a Quirrell defender, he deserved so much better I stg
I headcanon that Quirrell's stammer and nervous twitches were genuine and he had them from a young age, but they got worse after becoming possessed due to the stress of keeping it a secret and the torture voldemort was putting him through. The reason he drops the stammer during the final confrontation isn't because he was faking it all this time, but rather Voldemort had by that point completely possessed him as a meat puppet and wasn't bothered about faking it.
Also I adore the idea of eager tweenage Quirinus as McGonagle's teachers pet to help deal with the bullying. The guy's entire story is just trauma and mental torture and then gets blamed for getting possessed by the Wizard Devil, JKR I will confiscate him from you-
idrk which year he was from but ik how you like to shine light of overlooked ppl so what are your thoughts on Quirrel :3
I don’t have toooo many thoughts on Quirrel (though I’ve been asked this before so I have let my thoughts simmer a bit).
I like the idea that Quirrel was in the same year or the year below Gilderoy. If they were in the same year they would have likely been roommates due to Gilderoy being in Ravenclaw as well. I’m not sure how well they got along, but assuming they did at least a little it was very much Gilderoy talking and Quirrel listening. On the topic of Quirrel and talking I do think he’s had his speech impediment for his entire life and it very much hindered him in being social as a child which was part of the reason he was so eager to travel around by the time he left school, to put his general image behind him and to hopefully get a bit more confidence in himself.
He’s one of the few characters we have a birthday for, even if we don’t have a birth year. His birthday is 26 September!
He was a skilled student, very clever and a skilled teacher and I think he was one of the people who were close with their previously favourite teacher once they became colleagues. In Quirrel’s case that would have been McGonagall, who according to the wiki is the reason Quirrel became a teacher in the first place. I would imagine she also encouraged him to pursue knowledge elsewhere after school as a means to boost his confidence after years of bullying.
I picture him as long and lanky with limbs that look too long for his body. He’s got a long face and fair blonde hair and I think his teeth were slightly crooked. I also think he suffered from shrimp posture because he was constantly trying to make himself less noticeable by appearing smaller
And that’s about all I’ve got! Hopefully that was enjoyable lol

Coming back to think about the ending after awhile and honestly the whole idea of the ending WORKS and is justifiable and bittersweet and thematically consistent, but the way it was executed (sorry Humphrey) wasn’t fully realised.
I know they wanted to make it bittersweet but I think it would have been better to show more of after Alison and Mike moving out. And more importantly showing how the ghosts lives have improved because of Alison.
Alison and Mike moving into a ‘normal’ house. Maybe a shot of Alison nodding to a ghost at the local supermarket, to show she’s now used to seeing ghosts around in public.
The ghosts enjoying the activities in the hotel, after being a bit unsure about the changes. Robin turning a light off for an elderly resident.
Show the ghosts having stronger friendships with each other: Julian and Robin still playing chess. Robin having a vantage point on the mantlepiece. Fanny reading a book set up, and Julian turning the page for her. One of Thomas’ poems framed on the wall. Pat and Kitty dancing. Robin using his telescope to see the stars.
THEN show Alison and Mike as now elderly and still visiting. It still gives that bitter sweetness, but shows that they’re all HAPPY and have all become better off because they knew each other.
I'm really surprised that a lot of people didn't like how Ghosts ended and consider it to be a sad ending. I loved it.
It was just not practical for the family to stay in Button house. It was falling apart and neither Alison or Mike had the funds to fix it or keep up with the costs of running the place. They made that clear many times throughout the show. The heating bill alone would be astronomical. The charm of living in an expensive, falling apart, old house would not last. Even if they wanted to stay there, the family would get to a point where they would have to move if they wanted to afford food and other basic needs, especially with the new costs of raising a child.
The family haven't permanently left the the Ghosts behind. They could stay at the hotel every year, multiple times a year if they wanted. The place has a sauna, probably other leisure facilities like a gym and a pool now too. Many hotels double up as a leisure club so it wouldn't be weird for them to visit as often as they like. Especially as they would have a lot of money from selling the house.
The ghosts are right too, them being there 24/7 could easily become too much. I know i'd feel unable to relax and feel like i'd have no privacy if I lived with that many people who literally can not leave, ever.
I know it's a comedy show that hinges on being somewhat unrealistic! However, these characters are expected to behave at least somewhat how real people would. Alison and Mike are sensible people and react to situations in the way normal, sensible people would. To me, there is no way they'd be able to stay happy living in that house for the rest of their lives.

Fun headcanon that the court martial pardon/cancellation was called off a bit earlier in the day, but Darling kept it back just long enough to mess with Blackadder out of pettiness and general revenge for the hospital incident.
The guy knows that the trial was a sham and it would get undone immediately (and probably doesn’t actively want people dead, even if they are an arse) but decided to have fun tormenting his nemesis.
Just imagining the letter arriving the day before and Kevin being like… “Call it off, but don’t tell him until he’s got the blindfold on.”

While he’s usually equal to Blackadder in intelligence in Goes Forth, Darling’s “I don’t think you should say that to her, sir” is 100% latent Percy DNA and you can’t convince me otherwise

The problem with wanting to write Blackadder fanfiction is that Blackadder doesn’t have a sincere bone in his body until they are all literally about to die - so writing any kind of angsty or wholesome fanfic has to either mischaracterise him or just leave him out
In other news I want to write another Goes Forth fanfic and having to contend with ‘yeah but Blackadder would literally never comfort anyone to save his life’

I just came across this and it’s so silly I love it
Also - “Beautifully done” says Steven Fry, who has been messing up his shots for the last half an hour because of laughing
#Tim McInnerny being very unserious#I also love it when cast and crew overly-celebrate really easy retakes like walking across a room or picking something up#Blackadder#blackadder goes forth#tim McInnerny#captain darling#Kevin darling#Blackadder 4

It’s been a long-standing headcanon of mine that Zaphod is a bit older than Ford in both ‘trying to sell your baby sibling’ ways and ‘if you hurt my sibling I will kill you’ ways. Although they’re semi-cousins they’re very much older-younger sibling dynamic that also simultaneously have only-child energy
i know ford and zaphod are roughly the same age but in my mind zaphod is a little bit older. just a little. i don't know how to describe it but zaphod feels like an older sibling who refuses to grow up

the fact that zaphod chose phil as a name implies that he did more research than ford when decided to crash one(1) party and then immediately dip
