i forgot to update but i finished a couple weeks ago and that was amazing. thanks for the incentives y’all, they were totally accurate and did not disappoint.

easily my favorite book of mbe2. i might do a longer (and more spoiler-y) post later with theories and full reactions but for now:

i think you can really see brandon’s growth as a writer and a person here. the way he treats characters/the interpersonal relationships between them just feels real and more intentional. characters who i previously found to be props to the main characters really got to thrive and have a place in the spotlight.

also, even more so than the other era 2 books, i really experienced the full range of emotions with this one. i laughed. i cried. i nearly threw my book into oncoming traffic. y’know how it goes.

10/10 experience. if anyone’s on the fence about this book or era 2 in general, this is your sign to get a fancy drink and sit down outside and binge read. i think i took these books too seriously when i started reading them a couple years ago— yes, they have really high stakes cosmere-wide, but imo it’s super important to take wax and wayne for the fun characters they are and just enjoy the ride.
