First off, Halo plasma grenades have a blast radius of 13 ft or 3.96 meters.

Donut was in lethal distance of that and, surprisingly by non-RvB standards, survived it. While we don’t see him using his comm like York does, we do see him having an extremely hard time at hearing.

Donut chatters because he doesn’t hear anything to fill the space, and sometimes can’t hear when the Reds ask him to stop talking.

When talking with Sarge in Season 11, Donut can be heard asking “ Sorry, did you say five, or nine?” to which Sarge replies, “I said eight.”

He is constantly mistranslating for Lopez, and yet can sometimes translate fluently. It’s because he does understand Spanish but can’t hear what Lopez is saying.

HEADCANON: MEMORY BLEEDING

Due to Epsilon’s meltdown in his head, Washington’s memories became scrambled. Even afterward, certain side effects are still seen, listed below.

1. Inability to remember people and places from his past. He can no longer remember the names of his family, his friends from childhood, and his pets from home. He only vaguely remembers titles such as Mamma, Appa, and Brother. He does not remember their faces, nor where he is from. He does not know the significance of the tattoo on his wrist.

2. Mixing with Director’s memories. He knows of a woman named Allison, a wife he never had, and a daughter he loved. He knows his wife left for war and never returned, and that she hated goodbyes. He does not know if Allison was her name or his daughter’s.

3. Hallucinations. The meltdown of Epsilon caused certain parts of his brain to be overloaded, mostly the parts dealing with the senses. He can get hallucinations of people he doesn’t remember in situations that he doesn’t know why he cares. He has attributed names to all of them, the most frequent ones being Alli, a woman who fades in and out and Steven, a young man in either a nurse’s scrubs or priest’s roman collar who is always on fire.

4. Disconnection with past events and objects. He does not know why every September 24th he is depressed. He does not know why he hates summertime. He does not know why seeing a church makes him upset. Most importantly, he does not know why he hates cats, dancing, and violin.
