Breaking News: It's Mutants Vs. the Government
6 posts
Hunter or hunted? That's the way it always seems to have been. You would think that having super powers would make life more convenient or exciting for a person. That life would be just like the comic books. But life with superpowers is only coupled with the crushing realization that the majority of normal people think of you as nothing more than a "thing," a "freak," a "monster." There are no superheroes or super-villains. You're feared by society and hunted by the government. In this world, it's either kill or be killed. You do what you have to, to survive until the next day. You can't trust anybody. Life is nothing like the comic books. Yet there's still that lingering hope that the world will be able to be changed for the better, or at least, made just the slightest bit safer for mutants. So tell me, whose side are you on?

“Ah... No, I’m sorry to say that I don’t know anyone in particular. It’s possible that I’ve bumped into a few, since there’s never truly always a way of knowing that someone’s a mutant just by looking at them. And admittedly, I’ve only been in the city for a few days now, since I haven’t been able stay in one place for very long...for obvious reasons. So maybe I’ll end up meeting some of the others in the city soon. But......”

“...There had been someone that I met a while ago... He found me bleeding out on the roof of a building after I had almost been killed by a group of government agents. I remember he healed me somehow, even though he didn’t have to. We traveled together for a little while afterwards, but...we eventually got separated due to more agents trying to capture us. So I’m not sure what ended up happening to him...”

“But hopefully...nothing too awful ended up happening to him... He was a good guy. A good...friend. And he doesn’t deserve to have anything bad happen to him. I just hope that he’s okay...”

How does the government try to deal with mutants?
Tumblr media
“…Unfortunately, I don’t think you’re really going to like the answer to that question…  Most of the time, the government simply ends up killing any…unruly mutants that they can’t capture alive. The ones that they do manage to capture though… Well… The government doesn’t see mutants as human, so they don’t even afford them the same basic rights as humans have. They’re subjected to experimentation by the scientists that run the labs. Unrestricted experimentations in order to figure out how mutants work, what makes them tick, how their powers are capable of existing, how to control them… Basically turning them into guinea pigs that are kept caged and numbered like nothing more than animals…”

What do you use your powers for?
Tumblr media
“On a more serious note, it’s not that I go out looking to kill anybody. It’s all just part of the bigger picture: survival. People try to kill me, and I have to fight them in return, so that I don’t end up dying. Self-defense, if you will. Isn’t that what anybody would do? I just use my powers to be able to survive. It’s how I’ve managed to evade capture by the government agents for the past ten or eleven years that I’ve been on my own. You could say that I’m a lot luckier than most mutants are…”

How did you find out about your powers?
Tumblr media
“Actually… To be honest, I don’t actually remember how I first discovered my powers, or at least not the first true time. I don’t remember all too much of anything. I just…woke up one day when I was about ten years old, surrounded by rubble and the aftermath of an earthquake that wiped out my hometown. As far as I know, I was the only survivor, so I…think that it must’ve been because of my power that everything was destroyed…”
