Entry level jobs haven't existed since the 2008 crash. 90% of hiring managers won't hire recent graduates. A quarter of job listings are ghost jobs. Companies hire part time so that they don't have to give benefits. Federal minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009. The True Unemployment Rate is 25%. Master's are the new bachelor's. For most the job search takes over a year. 75% of resumes are never. actually seen by the hiring team.

+ bonus: Detective Dobson... what can I say? We didn't get to speak nearly as much as I ever would have liked, but I heard more about you than anyone ever could. And you sound heroic. The kind of guy that I could have worshipped as a child and an adolescent. Well into my 20's.

Behavior Change for Fellow ADHDers
I’m a clinical psychologist and a topic that frequently comes up with people that I see is how to make behavior changes with ADHD.
Here’s what we know:
-“Motivation” is bullshit, and she’s a fickle bitch. So we can’t rely on her.
-Behavior change can be exciting, but because motivation is such a fickle bitch, there’s no way to really tell when it’s going to strike.
-If you have ADHD, expect behavior change to take a bit longer than the average person.
ADHD brains rely on micro-rewards for motivation, and are not great at recognizing how good it feels to finish big projects. The only thing an ADHD might remember after a big project is how miserable it was to do that big project. This is why “clean your room” is such a miserable experience: instead of focusing on how good the room looks, brain will focus on how much getting to that point sucked ass.
So to combine those two thoughts: ADHD brains require micro-adjustments to behaviors. In order to maintain a consistent behavior change, it has to give your brain consistent micro-rewards.
What to do:
1. Pick an aspect of life that you want to change, and pare it down to nearly the smallest component. Think down to almost an atomic level.
2. Focus on maintaining that very teeny tiny behavior every day for a month.
For example, maybe you want to make laundry easier to do and work that into your routine. In order to do the laundry, your clothes have to make it into the washer. So every day for a month, focus on just putting your dirty clothes in the washer once they are off.
That’s all. Do not add to the daily routine until you are doing that behavior almost without thinking about it.
Now for something like laundry, you are going to have to actually do the entire laundry cycle more than once a month. This is where you get outside executive function help, such as a friend or family member to walk beside you for the rest of the cycle.
What you are doing is gradually increasing your cognitive load, just like if you were to start working out at the gym. In this scenario, it would be like going from tiny one pound weights to trying to lift fifty pound weights: you might be able to do it, but you’re going to burn out super quick. Adding one pound weights over time eventually builds up, just like saving a dollar a day builds up to $365 over the course of a year. Having a friend or family member take over your executive functioning for a bit will prevent burn out.
Try it out and see what happens.

I can’t always keep up with what all of you are saying, so I just… hope for the best whenever I’m expected to say something.
