i think the western world has made us so caught up on having a purpose and finding it for our whole entire lives. some indigenous cultures believe we’re alive and here just as trees and animals are: to be here and to beautiful and strange, to simply just be. we don’t need to achieve anything to be valid in our humanness.

Wenlang truly does care about Gao Tu but he is the truest tsundere who expresses his love in meanness and the worst part is that Gao Tu picked up on just enough to love him in return but not enough, because you never get enough from his kind of love, to see how much he truly cares.
They're so fucked up.
(Wenlang knows everything about Gao Tu, all the jobs he did, the breakfasts he bought him, how much he ate, everything he was doing... and as they've grown older he knows both more and less but he's always scolding him to take care of himself, to grow up, but he thinks Gao Tu is taken and not just taken but in love and so the love became even harder and even crueler but at the center of it is worry and love and fear and doesn't that hurt? Because Gao Tu has been building his lies to him for a decade just to stay near him and now everything is falling apart.)
The one thing that Wenlang doesn't know about Gao Tu is the one thing that Gao Tu can never, ever let him know but also what's killing him and driving them apart and it's truly heartbreaking each time Wenlang drives the knife deeper into his heart with his hatred of omegas and each time Gao Tu hurts himself more to try and keep being someone he believes Wenlang could love... even knowing it's impossible.
(How could he hide his heats if they were together? What excuse could he make for the omega smell and the injections and the suppressants? And Wenlang would never love him as he is... so instead he must give up, instead he must cling to a love that cannot be and a hope that he cannot ever truly hope.)

Hua Yong really plays the game perfectly, doesn't he?
I especially love how he's never actually asking for anything. The only time he actually asks for Sheng Shaoyou's help is in the club - the very first time Shaoyou helps him.
After that, all he does is very carefully not ask anything of Sheng Shaoyou. He puts himself in situations of needing help very obviously and oh so unfortunately where Shaoyou can see him, and let Shaoyou's protectiveness do the rest. Everything always seems like it was Shaoyou's idea.
And when help is offered, Hua Yong refuses and thanks and apologies and argues that it's too much, just enough to build the character of an omega who might be demure and in a desperate situation but who has integrity and principles, just enough to never seem like he's purposefully taking advantage of Shaoyou, just enough that his agreeing in the end feels like a victory to Shaoyou.
And now? Now that he's dying of jealousy at the idea of his alpha sleeping with someone else, is he gonna ask him to stop?
Of course not.
Instead he pretends to leave.
He apparently doesn't leave Shaoyou any say in the matter by simply telling him he's leaving, all the while timing it just right so they catch each other at the door. He disarms Shaoyou's anger with a single well-placed tear, and then he gets all vulnerable with him.
He admits he likes Shaoyou, then tears up about how jealous he feels and how bad he feels about said jealousy, about how he doesn't want to be that person.
At no point in this conversation is he asking anything of Sheng Shaoyou, except to let him go (which is precisely the outcome he doesn't want).
Even better, he chooses the right decision in his (apparent) situation. If he were really in a situationship with someone who wasn't ready to be exclusive, and it was hurting him that much? Leaving and cutting off the relationship would most likely be the right thing to do. A bit more communication would be great in theory, but overall it's a very reasonable show of boundaries. If any of this was sincere I'd be cheering him on for dealing with a complicated relationship with a maturity very few characters ever have.
Hua Yong is also very careful not to frame it as a trade-off. There is no "if you want me to stay you need to stop sleeping with others". He is neither asking nor negotiating: he has already made up his mind. Sheng Shaoyu is the one who has to make this conversation into a negotiation, the one who has to make an offer, once again.
Shaoyou hears that Hua Yong is leaving. And just as with the cookies, Hua Yong got him used to his presence, then took it away so Shaoyou could miss him. After being avoided for a week (in the flat he's only living in to see Hua Yong nonetheless), he knows exactly how much Hua Yong's absence aches. So he's gonna give as much as he's ready to keep Hua Yong.
What's working especially well here is that, by implying things, you let others feel in the blanks. Because Hua Yong isn't asking for anything, he can't ask for too much. It's too soon to demand Shaoyou stop sleeping with other people entirely, and in fact Shaoyou doesn't offer it. But he got the message loud and clear. And then he gets to tailor his answer to exactly how much he's ready to give at this point.
Which in this case isn't much: his "let's not do this again" is incredibly vague, and you'll note he didn't offer any apology either. But considering he has ruts to take care of and Hua Yong can't sleep with him, promising not to sleep with anyone else again would not have been very smart on his part.
And it's not like Hua Yong needs much at this point. I don't know what exactly he was expecting from this specific move, but he was never actually gonna leave. The point was to make it clear that Hua Yong was upset by Sheng Shaoyou sleeping around, and that point was absolutely heard, even if neither man actually voices the issue that led to the "fight".
So Hua Yong managed to drive home the fact that he hates Sheng Shaoyou sleeping around. All the while, instead of looking controlling or possessive, he's presented himself as this pure omega ridden with guilt at his own jealousy, which is gonna make Shaoyou auto-control a lot better than a controlling reaction would have.
What a perfect little scheming thing. It is so fascinating to watch him slowly catch Shaoyou in his web. Can't wait to see how he deals with the aftermath of the rut.

we gotta talk more about how much peem loves seeing phum be jealous over him. even when they went to the camp and that kid said phum told him to get peem away from “that guy” peem was so delighted hearing it. he even teased phum early morning, trying to get him to admit he's jealous. and in ep 14 he's talking soooo sweetly to his mom, moves his phone to the other ear on purpose to see phum get riled up. peem my boy he loves attention and seeing phum be pathetic and hopelessly in love. he's gonna be slightly petty to see his boyfriend be jealous and enjoy everything about it. honestly I can respect that

jokes to make after failure that aren’t self-deprecating:
I’m the best to ever do it
Nobody saw that (best if said loudly)
No one’s ever done it like me
I could be President/they should make me President
Behold, a mere fraction of my power!
The public wants to be me soooooo bad
I’m an expert in (thing you just failed at)
How could this have happened to god’s favorite princess?
Nothing ibuprofen and a glass of water cant fix
I’m being sabotaged

Watching this dude react to KinnPorsche and I'm losing it over his statements that in that moment seem so sane. But knowing what I do (having seen the whole show) are hysterical
"Ok lets put the guns down. We dont need all that. We were just having a conversation" when Kinn's people pull guns on the Italians right before Kinn shoots the accountant
"I think he is actually grateful. I'd be a little scared if I was Porsche though, this guy looks like hes part of the fucking mafia" when Porsche takes Kinns watch as repayment
"Aw he lives at home with Mum and Dad" on being introduced to Porsche's home
I cant wait to see how he continues to get things so wrong/right as he goes. Its oure comedy gold!

I love this so much. I love that the doctor not only tells him that he's destroying himself but fears that he's being abused and that he's hurting himself. His mother, trapped in an abusive relationship because of her nature and trying so hard to protect her son from the same fate putting a fear into him that he cannot shake, placing him in a situation where he puts the secret he feels he must keep over the safety and life of his own body for fear that what happened to her will find him as well... oh, I love him. He is so hurt and struggling so much and worked so hard to hide his own nature from the people around him, creating an isolation he cannot escape because breaking that isolation means breaking the secret and that danger is ever present, ever looming.
He is trapped in an abusive relationship with himself now, trapped in a cycle started as a mother trying to protect her son and now a man trying so hard to follow her directives that he is genuinely destroying his body and risking his life. Ugh, I adore him. I love characters who need the most protecting from themselves.
#As an angst enjoyer the sheer multitude of ways in which he is hurring himself/bring hurt is perfection#And im still not over the insanity of this show being made at all#Truly we live in joyous times#(As long as you ignore the dumpster fire of everything outside)#desire the series
