Over the course of her 66-year-reign, Queen Elizabeth has seen more than a few regime changes in American politics. In total, she's spent time with 12 out of the last 13 sitting U.S. presidents. (Somehow, Lyndon Johnson missed the cut.) The queen traveled to Washington, DC for the first time to meet President Harry Truman in 1951 when she was still a princess, and has also hosted Trump at Windsor Castle when he visited England in 2018. Since 1951, the year before she ascended to the throne, the Queen has met with 12 US presidents and helped facilitate the US and UK's diplomatic relations. The queen, who ascended to the throne in 1952 and is currently the world's longest-reigning monarch, has played a major role in facilitating the US and UK's "special" diplomatic relationship and has met with 12  American presidents at places including Buckingham Palace, the White House, and even a Baltimore Orioles game.President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump last visited with the royals from June 3-5, 2019 on a special state visit to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.  They attended several distinctly British meet-and-greet opportunities, including tea with heir Prince Charles, a banquet at Buckingham Palace, a tour of Westminster Abbey, and a D-Day anniversary ceremony, most of which was alongside royalty. . Same works with baking soda or corn starch. The powder will absorb the remaining liquid and, once dry, can just be vacuumed up. It even helps with any lingering vomit smell. . Niels Bohr gained more than just fame and a medal after winning the Nobel Prize in 1922 for his work in early quantum mechanics. Back in 1875, the brewery was one of the first to isolate a new species of yeast that was used to brew pale lagers, apart from making discoveries in protein chemistry that ended up having applications elsewhere. The beer bond goes just beyond free drinks, and in 1921 Bohr founded that Insititute for Theoretical Physics with the help of the Danish government and the Carlsberg Foundation. Bohr went to unearth complementarity, which became a key principle in quantum mechanics. . Rhinos come in shades of gray, and the white rhinoceros is no exception. On average, white rhinos aren’t any lighter than their Indian, Javan, or Sumatran counterparts—and black rhinos aren’t any darker either. Both black and white rhinoceroses are found in sub-Saharan Africa. The black rhino is smaller and more aggressive, with a small, hook-shaped mouth designed for feeding on shrubbery. It is also quite solitary, unlike the white rhino, which may move in groups of as many as 15. Additionally, the white rhino is equipped with a broad, flat mouth designed for grazing on grasses. And that’s the cornerstone of the most common explanation for the “white” misnomer: English explorers may have misheard the Afrikaans term “wijde”—meaning “wide,” in reference to the mouth—as “white.” The mistake birthed the “white rhinoceros,” with the term “black rhinoceros” being used to differentiate the two species (and further propagate the error). . The final was played on 11 July 2010 at Soccer City, Johannesburg. Spain defeated the Netherlands 1–0, after an extra time goal by Andrés Iniesta. The win gave Spain its first World Cup title. It was the first time since England in 1966 that the winners of the final wore their second-choice strip. . The sculptors pleaded that the little figure was just their trademark, and a way of saying how fast they had worked to get the statue made in time - the Afrikaans word for rabbit is haas, and that also means haste. And furthermore - you would need to look really hard to notice the tiny rabbit up there on the 9m (30ft) statue. None of these arguments convinced the men in suits in the government offices in Pretoria. "It was agreed that it should be removed and that was done," . The rabbit is now gone - and all we know is that it was given back to one of the men who helped bring the statue to life. . Switzerland has a vaunted reputation for political neutrality and hasn't fought a war since 1815. The mountainous and land-locked country wanted to keep its stance intact even during the tensest years of the Cold War — and even if it meant destroying crucial pieces of its own infrastructure to stop an invading army. Switzerland's Military Defense Involves Blowing Up All Roads Into The Country. Near the German border of Switzerland, every railroad and highway tunnel has been prepared to pinch shut explosively.  Nearby mountains have been made so porous that whole divisions can fit inside them. In short: Switzerland is devoted to extreme neutrality. But were a nation to test that, they're prepared to mess an invader up. But as of 2014-15,Switzerland Is Finally Getting Around To Dismantling Its Cold War-Era Defense System .The disarmament of the Säckinger Bridge was only the latest bridge along the German-Swiss border to be defused. . The PS2 was a staggering success. Everything about it sung sales. It had the added functionality of a DVD player, something that sold the console both a as home theatre device, and as a modern gaming machine. Its games were great on launch, and kept staying that way. The best model PS2 is a fat 3900x or 5000x. They have the better lasers of the phats, no software compatibility issues, and if anything changes down the line it has HDD support for you. If you have to get a slim one look for a 7000x one since it still has the PS1 CPU on it. . Towser was famous for her record breaking mouse catching skills. In fact, she was so incredible that she made it in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's best mouser with a solid count of 28,899(approx.) mice. Towser worked at Glenturret Distillery near Crieff, Scotland her entire life, from 1963 to 1987. In those 24 years, she caught 28,899 mice! At least that’s the number recorded on the monument to her that you can see at the visitor’s center at the distillery. That’s an average of three mice every day for her entire life! . It says “The sun gives us life. But if we’re not careful it also gives us painful sunburns. That’s why we made KFC’s Extra Crispy™ Sunscreen,” the site reads. “Harmful ultraviolet rays bounce off your skin while the lovely fragrance rays penetrate it to give you a healthy chicken aroma. “KFC® Extra Crispy™ Sunscreen is an actual product. KFC® Extra Crispy™ Sunscreen is not a food product. NOT a food product. Do not eat this product. Even though this product smells delicious, it is not delicious. The only skin that should be extra crispy this summer is on your fried chicken,” the company warns. This new sunscreen is only one way to profess your true commitment to the fried chicken life. Some other options: you can paint your nails with KFC-scented polish, stick a piece of eerily realistic fake fried chicken on your phone, or show someone you care with this KFC corsage when prom season comes around again. Fried chicken: so versatile " The company said. . Follow us @askmeknowledge for more such interesting facts, Life Pro Tips, Q&A and much more valuable stuff on your feed. Eighty years after he shimmied up a15-foot flagpole to grab a souvenir, a former Olympic divingmedalist handed back his ripped-off trinket — the original Olympicflag. Hal Haig “Harry” Prieste confined to a wheelchairmost of the time, said today that he took theflag as a dare at the 1920 Games in Antwerp, Belgium, and kept itin a suitcase. The flag is now regarded as the first to feature the five ringson a white background that have become the Olympic symbol. Prieste only discovered its importance during an interview at aU.S. Olympic Committee awards dinner in 1997, when a reporter toldhim the original flag had gone missing and never been located. “I thought I ain’t going to be around much longer — it’s nogood in a suitcase,” Prieste said after handing the folded linenflag to International Olympic Committee president Juan AntonioSamaranch at the start of the IOC’s annual meeting. “It was no good to me — I won’t be able to hang it up in myroom,” said Prieste, who is considered the oldest living Olympicmedalist. “People will think more of me for giving it away thankeeping it.” IOC vice president Anita DeFrantz introduced Prieste to thesession as a “living legend,” adding that he had run in theOlympic torch relay at Atlanta in 1996 at the age of 100. At thatage he was still doing push ups and had just quit ice skating. He also was greeted by IOC member Jacques Rogge, arepresentative of Belgium, where the flag was snatched. The flag is slightly discolored and is tattered along the edgewhere Prieste ripped it off the flagpole, but otherwise in goodcondition, the USOC said. . The eight-hour workday started its life as a socialist dream. The Welsh textile mill owner and social reformer Robert Owen is credited as the first person to articulate it, by calling for “eight hours labor, eight hours recreation, and eight hours rest” for workers in the early 19th century. Back when the government first tracked workers' hours in 1890, full-time manufacturing employees worked a backbreaking 100 hours each week. Years of pressure from laborer organizers, along with changes from companies like Ford Motor, reformed working conditions in the U.S. and protected workers from schedules. that endangered their health and safety. . Although ants are frustrating when they get into your home or when you’re having a picnic, ants do help the environment. They are social insects, which means they live in large colonies or groups. Depending on the species, ant colonies can consist of millions of ants. There are three kinds of ants in a colony: The queen, the female workers, and males. The queen and the males have wings, while the workers don’t have wings. The queen is the only ant that can lay eggs. The male ant’s job is to mate with future queen ants and they do not live very long afterwards. Once the queen grows to adulthood, she spends the rest of her life laying eggs! Depending on the species, a colony may have one queen or many queens. . Follow us @askmeknowledge for more such interesting facts, Life Pro Tips, Q&A and much more valuable stuff on your feed. 5 seconds = 1 mile, 15 seconds = 3 miles, 0 seconds = very close...Keep in mind that you should be in a safe place while counting. Remember, if you can hear thunder, chances are that you're within striking distance of the storm. You don't want to get struck by the next flash of lightning. Although a lightning discharge usually strikes just one spot on the ground, it travels many miles through the air. When you listen to thunder, you'll first hear the thunder created by that portion of the lightning channel that is nearest you. As you continue to listen, you'll hear the sound created from the portions of the channel farther and farther away. Typically, a sharp crack or click will indicate that the lightning channel passed nearby. If the thunder sounds more like a rumble, the lightning was at least several miles away. The loud boom that you sometimes hear is created by the main lightning channel as it reaches the ground. .
