How Can Chatbots Improve Customer Service? - AskSid
Enter AI Customer Support Chatbots!
Before i explain further on how AI Chatbots could have made a significant difference to my shopping journey above, let’s first understand some basics about this technology
What Is a Chatbot?
A chatbot is artificial intelligence (AI) software that can simulate a conversation (or a chat) with a user in natural language through messaging applications, websites, mobile apps, or the telephone. The chatbot market size is expected to grow from USD 2.6 billion in 2019 to USD 9.4 billion by 2024, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 29.7% during the forecast period.
How Does a Chatbot Work?
1. Analyzes the user’s request to understand the intent and extracts relevant information (also called NLP)
2. Responds to the user with an appropriate answer which could be either of the following :
i) A predefined text message or a helpful link
ii) Relevant information from a knowledge base
In this article, let’s dig more into how chatbots for customer service are helpful and why every retail brand should have customer service chatbots that can simplify the shopper’s journey and their buying experience. According to research by Gartner, by 2022, 70% of white-collar workers will interact with conversational AI platforms on a daily basis. There has been a more than 160% increase in client interest around implementing chatbots and associated technologies in 2018 from previous years,” says Van Baker, VP Analyst at Gartner. “This increase has been driven by customer service, knowledge management and user support.”

What Is Natural Language Processing? - AskSid
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a branch of artificial intelligence that aids computers to understand, interpret, and manipulate human language. NLP originates from various disciplines, including computer science and computational linguistics, to bridge the gap between human message and computer understanding.
Natural Language Processing: Know the Basics
There are two major components of NLP:
Natural Language Understanding (NLU) In natural language understanding, we have the following tasks:
Mapping the input given in natural language into meaningful representations
Analyzing the various aspects of the language
Natural Language Generation (NLG)
NLG is the procedure of generating meaningful sentences and phrases in the form of natural language for some internal representation.
Bag of Words: This model is commonly used to count the words in a piece of text. It generates an occurrence matrix for the document/sentence, disregarding grammar, or word order.
Tokenization: Tokenization is a method of segmenting running text into sentences and words. Basically, we are cutting a text into smaller pieces called a token, while discarding characters such as punctuation marks.
Stemming: Stemming is the process of slicing either the end or the start of words to remove affixes (the lexical additions to the root of the word). Let us explain through an example. Affixes that are attached at the beginning of a word are known as prefixes (e.g., ‘Astro’ in astrobiology) and those attached at the end are suffixes (e.g. ‘ful’ in ‘helpful’).
Lemmatization:  It resolves words to their dictionary form (also known as lemma). It needs detailed dictionaries for the algorithm to look and link words to their corresponding lemmas. For instance, the words ‘sleeping’, ‘sleep’, and ‘slept’ are basically forms of the term ‘sleep’. Therefore, sleep is the lemma of all of them.

AI without data - AskSid
Artificial intelligence or AI refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines. (Refer the article Are AI and machine learning the same if you wish to understand more on what is AI) Artificial intelligence-based system learns from data (also referred as “training data”). These systems find relationships hidden in the training data, develop an understanding of the data, make decisions and then evaluate their performance from the data. And better the training data, better the system performs. Or in other words, the training data (both the quality and quantity) dictates how well the AI system will perform. In this article I will cover some hacks one can use if there is not enough training data available. So read on.
But first let’s understand how the training process works in the AI world. Source: https://www.asksid.ai/blog/ai-without-data/
