Currently Reading: I’m re-reading Gideon the Ninth for the Sunday D&D Squad’s book club and to keep myself from reading ahead (bc I could tear through the entire thing in a single sitting if left unchecked tbh) I just finished The Devils by Joe Abercrombie (phenomenal) and picked up Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson (ehhhhhh still on the fence.)

Currently Watching: Nothing 😭 I have so many shows I want to watch and just,,,, no attention span or time to commit to a big, long series. Idk does the newest/current season of Game Changer on Dropout count???

Currently Craving: Bánh mì dude I want bánh mì so bad rn and there’s a place that has it within walking distance but it’s,,, super mediocre,,, and I don’t wanna drive 20 minutes to go get decent bánh mì somewhere else 🫠🫠🫠 so I’m just gonna sit here at home and mope instead

Tea or Coffee: I drink more coffee but I honestly prefer tea, I am such a sucker for a good London Fog or a cup of good chai or matcha (I am definitely picky about matcha tho bc some of the super artificial tasting & overly-sugary shit being sold as “matcha” makes me rly question how false advertising laws aren’t more strict.)

I'm like 5 billion years late to WIP whenever but please tell us about "Yikes"!! (and if you've already answered that one then pick one you haven't answered yet)

Ohhhh geez hahaha. Yikes is a WIP that has been fighting me tooth and nail since I started it like… [checks notes] good lord, two whole years ago lmao, I had not realized it had been THAT long.

It is/was meant to be a brief one-shot fic about the day a much younger and still human Jet discovered Calista’s true nature as a vampire while they’re at one of the nightclubs she owns together and he gets bitten. I wanted to really explore how his decision to not just run away that night kind of doomed him as a character and led to everything else that happened during the campaign. Jet is meant to be a somewhat sympathetic character, but I had always wanted to have a few pieces that really showcased how a lot of their misfortune is ultimately self-inflicted, and that they very knowingly made their own situation much worse on multiple occasions when they could’ve chosen not to.

I think part of why this darn thing has been fighting me so hard is because I ended up exploring the concept of Jet dooming himself in another piece down the line; this might be a cop-out but I’m gonna post a snippet from that fic instead because I like it better and also Yikes is a little (a lot) spicier than I remembered when I started trying to find a chunk to post

Calista’s experiment didn’t ruin you. You ruined yourself by reaching for the unholy abomination she killed you with to swallow it whole and become an abomination in your own right. You cannot pin your bloodlust on her or Xenthus. That insatiable hunger — for sustenance; for power; for sex; for money; for drugs; for every and any worldly pleasure you can seize to gorge yourself on — has been there from the very beginning. It hasn’t just been within you, it has defined you. When everything was stripped away as you teetered on the verge between life and death and only the last dying sparks of your soul remained, what lies at the very core of your being was revealed to be nothing more than a mindless, ravenous beast that wanted only to take and consume whatever it could to preserve itself and grow stronger. You were already a hair’s breadth from embodying the perfect vampiric ideal Calista sought to mold you into long before you ever grew fangs.

You chose this, all of this, and have nothing to blame for what you’ve become but yourself.
