D&D Character Concept: Classroom Skeleton

A necromancer is seeking to revive someone at a school (a medical cadaver, former professor, whatever) but the spell doesn’t revive the correct person, and instead revives a classroom skeleton hanging on a stand. The skeleton’s last memory is of being murdered by a mysterious assailant, who evidently sold their cadaver for money. Thus, they embark on an adventure to discover who killed them, all the while being chased by the necromancer trying to reverse the spell and correct their error in revival. Potentially ends in a romance between the necromancer and their unintentional resurrect-y, though it’s not earned without strife.

Ebberon verse

After reading a bit more on Eberron, I have a clearer idea what Altzmyr would be like there.

He would have been a half-elf raised in Aerenal exposed to the wonders of living among undead ancestors, but notice that none of the Undying Court are half-elves. This gets him pissed that no matter what he does he can’t join the Undying Court because he is half-human. He eventually moves to Khorvaire, but does not quite mesh with the half-elven culture there due to being raised more oddly.

After some studying of necromancy and whatnot to search for his own way to preserve himself, it dawns on him that it is unethical if the choice to persist longer than one’s mortal lifespan was delegated to an elite few; sure there are ghosts of many others but he wasn’t sure if that the way to go about it. So he checks out the Blood of Vol and is awed by their philosophy, however he disagrees that undead are a sorry state, especially after seeing the Undying Court’s “Deatheless” since it showed him it is possible for deathless and thus possibly undead to achieve some form of divinity. He has his own splinter sect of the Blood of Vol that focuses on improving undeath and is more focused on the soul than blood. He wants to combine the philosophies of the Undying Court and Blood of Vol, something that to either group probably sounds blasphemous.

Studying the undead condition gives him new insights into how typical undead and deathless differ, as well as ways to mitigate the draining corruption some undead spread, and even to emancipate and heal undead.

There would be times when he visits Aerneal again, and tries to do things to gain insight into secrets of the Undying Court, such as spy on their ceremonies creating new deathless, read books he’s not authorized to read, and use perhaps favors to get one to spill their secrets.

“Ahh!!” Altz squealed.

“This is great!” He then hugged Cassius.

Christmas Eve, also known as that other time that the dead ride through the night skies on a hellish cavalcade and are raised from their rest by necromancers and witches to do their bidding

"For your treat, red velvet cupcakes with little skulls piped on top of the cream cheese frosting!"

Altzmyr looked so happy recieving treats. He smiled basfully.

“Hey, uhm do you like pie?”

His mouth went for a candy skull.

“Errr...” *pokes it*

"Man, it's DEAD right now."

“Want me to bring it back?”

"Man, it's DEAD right now."
