The Superhuman Registration Act has just been passed. All enhanced individuals are required by law to register to a classified database, maintained by a special board of directions elected by the United Nations. As previously reported, the Act has been met with mixed opinions, and all eyes remain on The Avengers, waiting to see how each one will react to the news. 

It’s time to choose a side. Which one will you be on?

𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐕𝐄𝐋: 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍. 

 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐞𝐬… they have come far from what they used to be. Today’s 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙚𝙨, they are not bound by the simple ties of select figureheads. Today’s heroes rise in vast ranks, choosing their loyalties and causes based on their own motives. Today’s heroes have vision. They have passion. They have determination. And they are fierce, forged from the fire of unwilling complacency. This world, this vast new world, is full of new heroes. Heroes unlike those who have come before them, and thus… heroes that need to be controlled. 

 October 20, 2024. 10:00 AM EST. 

 The table is smooth, dark mahogany, and the wood grain was perfectly polished. The seats surrounding it were all filled with red-faced, shouting officials that were all hawking their own opinions. This was the United States government, after all. And the matter of these 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙚𝙨 was a divisive issue in and of itself. Mutants, they had been legally dealt with. The Mutant Registration Act, though, one voice dissented, had hardly solved any problems with PR. It wasn’t for PR, the response came from across the table, the official delivering it leaning forward with the vigour of the statement, it was for accountability, and yet another argued to the extent of what accountability would be gained without any semblance of organization? That voice hushed the table momentarily, with mixtures of resentment and resignation. For all the “all hands on deck” spirit that was called for with the proposal of the new legislation, there was hardly any sound agreement on the nuances and intricacies of the… 

 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐂𝐓.

 The Superhuman Registration Act. A piece of legislation (legendary, really, if you were to ask the drafters) that had been tabled and brought back too many times to count, at this point. It was a miracle that the original premise was standing at all. Accountability was behind it all, and… were the heroes of this brave new world not worthy of their own names? Had they not proven themselves reliable and trustworthy? These questions, those were in and of themselves the source of such heated debate that bore the first signs of the Superhuman Registration Act. 

 October 24, 2024. 7:00 AM EST. 

 Four days. Perhaps that can be considered a new record for the bureaucracy that gets by drafting words on a page intended to underscore the actions of every superhuman in the United States. In a sweeping, grand gesture, this new Act encompasses everyone with powers that could constitute something uncontrollable. Such benevolence, such vast benevolence, no? This is the debate. 

 You. You are the debate. The SHRA mandates the surrender of your aliases to the government. Secrecy, mystery, the masks and capes and shadows, all things of the past. With these names, these identities, the government monitors and surveils you, opening you up to contracts, employment, but also keeping you safely within view. They know who you are, now. They know what you can do. And they know how the world can make the most out of your gifts, curses, blessings. 

 Now, you are responsible for legalizing everything you are capable of. The purpose? Accountability. Responsibility. You are many. You hold a vast amount of potential. The accountability for what you are capable of, that is yours to keep and no one else’s. With your continued cooperation, that is.

 The question now, the question that rings out in the voices of the vast ranks of super powered individuals: what is more valuable? Guaranteed international security? Or continued personal privacy? In whose hands does the legacy of today’s heroes lie?
