Liara: we know she's a backseat driver, is very careful when she does drive. has surprising road rage, gets frustrated when people arent as good of a driver as she is.

Ashley: aggressive driver, serves through traffic like crazy. not afraid to lay on the horn when she's frustrated. is the type to get loaded into street races.

Miranda: a very good driver, took driving lessons and low key shames people who haven't. militant about passengers wearing their seatbelts. Will text or phone call while driving though.

Tali: I don't think the flotilla ships are big enough to have anything more than a rudimentary public tram. she doesn't have a license and has no desire to drive.

Samara: a surprisingly agressive driver, serves around other cars but at least she uses her turn signal. Will not accept criticism about her driving.

Jack: never got a license but drives anyways. do not let her drive it will not end well. Would rather start a car chase than pull over for police. has a "how's my driving" sticker with Shepard's phone number

Traynor: i honestly think she has too much anxiety to drive. but also hates letting Shepard drive, she's scared for her little gay life.

Kelly: one of the best drivers here, ignores her omni tool, uses turn signals, generally does everything right. very talkative while she drives, but will get distracted and forget to turn where she's supposed to.

EDI: EDI was programmed to pilot the Normandy, not drive a car. so I don't think she'd be a good driver. uses ship terms to refer to parts of the car.

Vetra: another very good driver besides the fact that she doesnt use her seatbelt. absolutely does not let Sid get away with not wearing hers though.

Suvi: regularly rear ends other drivers because she's distracted. probably best if Ryder does most of the driving because Suvi isn't a huge fan.

Peebee: blasts music with the windows closed, you can feel your whole body vibrate woth the bass. likes to street race and would probably get into drag racing as a result. has truck nuts on her car ironically.

Cora: second best driver, like Gil she's very careful about following the rules of the road. thinks anyone whos honking is honking at her. I can see her being kind of a car buff, and being interested in customizing her car.

Kaidan: listen, everyone who claims Canadians are so polite and demure has never seen one drive. years of pent up anger come out when Kaidan drives. no where near as bad as Zaeed, he still follows the rules and laws. extremely animated when raging, and comes up with the most creative insults.

Garrus: as much as garrus loves to rib Shepard about their driving, he's barely any better. his time at c-sec at least drilled basic rules of the road into him, but he's still an asshole who'll cut people off.

Thane: prefers to drive in complete silence, maybe plays some white noise while he drives. do not try talking to him he's not listening. very careful on the road, hasn't been in an accident once.

Jacob: generally a good driver, just doesn't use his turn signals. good at multitasking while driving, so talking, listening to the radio, eating, he can do it. will gladly take the role of designated driver

Mordin: I think he hates driving, he get too in his own thoughts and forgets he's driving. would rather let shepard drive than do the driving

Zaeed: worst driver here. worse than Shepard in that he doesn't even try to follow the rules of the road. his road rage is horrific, has fully gotten out of his car to fist fight someone. would drive a pickup with trucknuts.

Cortez: best driver here. very relaxed when driving, very in his element. this man is a Saint on the road, not an ounce of road rage in his body

Vega: it's a miracle he hasn't been killed, he never wears a seatbelt, never uses his turn signals, and pulls illegal turns all the time. drives with his windows open and radio absolutely blasting music.

Joker: would be the best driver if he wasn't such a jackass. regularly flips off other drivers he thinks are being stupid. thinks he's the best driver on the road, and he is, just don't tell him that

Jaal: has an angaran license, though I don't think he drives a traditional vehicle. more along the lines of some sort of atv or motorcycle type thing. a good driver, has definitely modified his vehicle.

Liam: I honestly don't think he has a license. he prefers public transit or to let other people drive. he's not that great of a driver when he does though.

Gil: has zooped up his car and treats it like his baby. will not let anyone else drive it, ESPECIALLY not Ryder. will fight someone if they hit his car. follows the rules of the road religiously.

Reyes: Street races, will try and goad other people into street racing. has lost his license multiple times. amazingly enough has never crashed.

small canon divergent fic post citadel battle in me1. I refuse to believe Shepard was just. fine. after the tower collapsed on her

It took them too long to find her. After Liara and Garrus were pulled from what was left of the citadel tower, and Liara realized that the commander wasn’t with them, Garrus had to hold her back from running to find her. Convincing her to let those who could actually walk to search for Shepard.

It took them too long. Liara felt as though, for the first time, she would lose her patience, until someone shouted that they’d found her, and the asari collapsed with relief, Anderson catching her by her arms and helping her sit on the ground.

Distantly, she could hear the man talking to her, his own voice wavering as he kept himself from crying, but all her attention was on Rose. They carried her out, calling for an ambulance cruiser ASAP.

She was breathing and barely conscious. Liara watched as she tilted her head to the side, lavender eyes making contact with Liara's blue, and she smiled before losing consciousness.

Liara wasn’t sure how long they’d been operating for. It felt like years had gone by. The asari had been lucky, her injuries weren’t as bad as Garrus’ or Rose’s.

A few broken bones were nothing compared to the amount of fractures that littered Garrus’ carapace and crest, or all the internal bleeding and the likely concussion Rose had sustained.

Liara sat on the bench in the waiting room, staring at the clock on the wall but not actually reading it, spacing out. She was partially aware of Kaidan sitting beside her, leg bouncing as he sat silently.

How long had it been since Shepard had been rushed to the ER? How long had it taken for Liara's injuries to be set and repaired? How long had she been waiting?

Her attention was snapped away from her thoughts when the doors slid open with a soft ‘woosh’ and a doctor stepped out. The salarian looked around before his eyes landed on the heavily armoured group huddled in the corner.

“I take it you are all companions of the commander?”

He asked, and Kaidan was the first to respond.

“Yes! Is she alright?!”

He sounded exhausted. All of them were.

“She’ll pull through, she’s going to live...”

the doctor continued to speak but Liara didn’t hear him, bursting into tears of relief and joy when she heard those words. Rose was going to live.

It was almost 3 months before Shepard was released and allowed to return to her apartment on the Citadel, provided someone stayed with her at all times. No one volunteered, Liara didn’t even have to say anything, everyone knew she would be the one to do it.

She hadn’t left Rose’s side since she’d woken up, and had been there during her physical rehab. It had been 2 weeks since the commander had left the hospital, and Liara was laying in bed with her.

The artificial sunlight peeking in through the slatted curtains, illuminating the room just enough for Liara to see. She gazed at Rose as the human slept, her face pressed against the pillow, short black hair mussed, and her dark skin littered with fresh scars that mingled with old ones.

The asari couldn’t help herself as she reached out, gently smoothing down some hair before leaning in and kissing her. She received a tired grumble in return and she pulled back, laughing softly as Rose slowly woke up, gazing at her from under thick lashes. She hummed,

“g'morning beautiful...five more minutes?”

She asked, voice thick from sleep. Liara simply smiled and wrapped an arm around Rose’s waist, pulling her closer.

“Of course”

It felt like they had all the time in the world.

I have a question about Salarians, specifically about the legal issues surrounding the 'breeding' contracts that they make. what happens when you break a breeding contract?? are you held legally liable? will you have to pay out the other party? what if your sterile and its not your fault? is the contract void? is the other party now SOL because they waisted their peek breeding years on a Salarian that can not or will not fulfil the contract?

ok this is a super interesting thing to think about. i had to quickly go over the Salarian entry on the wiki to jog my memory.

breeding contracts are never explicitly mentioned in the wiki, but iirc the salarian who's getting a bachelor party in me2 says that's basically what's going on.

so based on these 2 paragraphs, we can determine that these agreements/contracts (I'm going to call them contracts going forward) are only used to produce female salarians, as male salarians can be produced without the need for a second party.

looking at these 2 sections, they highlight just how important female salarians are to the species and their society. so any contract made to produce more females would undoubtedly be taken very seriously.

ultimately, I think the outcome of breaking a breeding contract comes down to one main thing; gender of the salarian breaking the contract

because of the way that the contracts seem to be formed, the candidates chosen are likely the most desirable of their clutch; most intelligent, physically healthy, no physical or mental "defects," etc. (Yes, this is kind of leaning into eugenics. but honestly, knowing salarians, that's not a huge suprise)

all that so say that I think questioning the viability of the other party involved wouldn't really be an option, given how much work goes into preparing these contracts.

ok so going back to what I think would happen if the contract was broken: I think it mostly depends on the gender of the one who breached the contract.

if it's the male that breaks the contract, it's still a big deal, and he'd probably end up disowned by his clan, but ultimately one of his relatives may be able to fill his place, purely due to the abundance of male salarians.

if it's the female, I think it'd be an absolute shitstorm. given that female salarians only make up about 10% of the population, there's a lot less options when it comes to repairing the contract.

HOWEVER, if the female breaks the contract due to infertility, I think it would become more of a mourning situation. having a female who's unable to even produce male offspring could be detrimental to a clan.

so that's what I think. If anyone else has anything to add please feel free to! I'd love to discuss this more and get other people's povs.
