Kaz wiped a sleeve across his face, smearing blood over his nose and forehead, and spat. He adjusted his gloves, looked down at Per Haskell from the second story landing and smiled. His teeth were red and wet. The crowd was far larger than when the fight had begun. He rolled his shoulders. “Who’s next?” he asked, as if he might have an appointment elsewhere.

So I read Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom and now I have a problem. The problem is that there are no more books to read. This was like my favorite Kaz scene so I had to draw it. A little bloodied up face painting for Christmas.

Y'all, this was a stupidly fun papercraft to build. And it’s huge. 16 x 31 inches! (by comparison, the recent Wicked King papercraft is 11 x 14″) I really had fun experimenting with this one, especially with the colors. I limited my selections to vibrant reds and dulled blues/greys and really stretched the color contrast muscles. Paying homage to the brilliant book covers, I imbued a crow/cityscape with a collage of elements inspired by noir, art deco and M.C. Escher. And I’m super happy to let Nina finally have her waffles.

I’ve had this planned since early last year, and finally decided to build it in celebration of the King Of Scars release…but then Netflix dropped their news about the Grishaverse mini series!?! So let this papercraft be my mortal sacrifice to the book-adaptation gods to bless Leigh Bardugo and Eric Heisserer & crew on their venture!

Okay, so, recently someone recommended Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo to me (and yes I do have plans to read the Grisha trilogy as well), and last night I finally found the time to compile some notes on everyone’s appearance and do a little sketching!  It’s not everyone, but y’all can expect more soon enough.

Uuuhhh, what else…  I was too hype to draw everyone’s faces to do any research on what kind of clothes exactly they might be wearing (see: Kaz’s tie and bowler hat, which together make him look like an American gangster in the 20s), so these aren’t final designs for me.  And I imagined Inej as extra-super-small and Kaz as having one thousand years of darkness carved into his face, so I’m still struggling with getting them to look their age, haha…  @v@ Not 100% on Nina and Matthias either, but I do love them. <3

She could see it took every last bit of his terrible will for him to remain still beneath her touch. And yet he did not pull away. She knew it was the best he could offer. It was not enough. She dropped her hand. He took a deep breath.

The group picture I promised I'ld do in return for 100 souls, back in February, is done! And because I got so sick of it, I drew another (the top image is the new one), so double group picture! It’s not that I don’t like it anymore, it’s more along the lines of, I can see so many mistakes and things I would do differently now.

It was really fun drawing them all together, and maybe I’ll draw more group pictures in the future, I guess this has shown that I am capable of doing it at least. Although it may be apparent which characters I play favourites with, I love them all, but Nina and Inej are my girls I love them, they deserve to eat all the waffles they want.
