One Touch Is All It Takes
prompt: ten educating rose about an alien race they’ve just met thats freaking her out and he wants her to calm down and introduce herself to them
for @tenthdoctorlife
“The Shadow Lands! Everything, covered by a sort of shadow, but never in total darkness!” The Doctor sauntered out the TARDIS and with a turn of his head faced the fantastic Rose Tyler. With a grin he said “It’s brilliant!”
With a laugh she replied, “That’s your new favourite word I swear,” she took a long look around. The TARDIS had been parked in this sort of grassy tree area, an almost-forest but also an almost-field. A light shadow was draped across the whole land, but oddly enough it wasn’t dark. “What’s even causing the shadow? It’s not like there’s mountains or something doing it.”
“Well,” the Doctor tilted his head slightly to the right, his focus on something random in the distance (God, Rose loved it when he did that) “it’s one of those… unexplainable… things. I think it’s some self-forming shadow but that opens a Pandora’s box full of problems. Oh!” he focused back onto Rose’s face, mentally taking note of the slight crinkle in the corners of her eyes and the broad smile on her face, he found himself grinning, “if I remember right, which I do, there should a sort of village down… that way. Shall we, Rose Tyler?”
She linked her arm in his and with a playful smile she said, “We shall Doctor, lead the way,”
“Allonsy!”

Pair Up
We live in a world,
Where things are in twos.
Where the grass is green,
And the sky is blue.

Be it physical, abstract, literals, or metaphors,
Putting them in pairs is what we do,
Sometimes fours when we’re feeling funky,
Since they’re divisible by two.

This little trait bleeds into most things,
Our knack for pairs is so strong,
We call it a match made in heaven,
Where everything belongs.

But sometimes it gets tricky,
I struggle to understand,
Or maybe it’s just practice?
I may need a helping hand.

Emotions are very clear,
I can see it on someone’s face,
Then I look at my reflection,
And there are emotions i cannot place.

it doesn’t make sense,
it really doesn’t,
i don’t know why i struggle.
i look inside,
i don’t know why,
but, everything get’s muddled.

to smile, you’re happy,
to cry, you’re sad,
to shout, then you are angry.
to live,
to laugh,
to love,
to lie,
emotion must be inside me.

i lay on the floor instead of my bed,
i sit oddly on a chair,
i go about my days in life,
yet never wholly there.

these pairs we’ve made,
i’m sad to say,
don’t work well in this mind of mine.
i puzzle others,
i puzzle myself,
when responding with “i’m fine.”

Everyone knows,
Emotions are tricky,
That has never been denied.
But pairs are lovely,
And often I wish,
I didn’t feel numb inside.

But maybe it’s not,
The numbness, I mean,
It’s pretty hard to define.
What do you pair,
No expression with?
Will it one day all align?

I get a little worried,
These pairs don’t always work,
But life has never been a straight line.
Maybe one day,
I’ll make my own pairs,
And understand these emotions as mine.

of a paradise lost
“Is it really so different?”
Blaze stood at Silver’s side, as he leaned over the balcony railing. Mahua flowers scented the air as they floated to the ground. Silver watched them fall with wide eyes as he gazed upon the reds and oranges the sunset painted upon the evening sky. He sighed against the railing, and Silver’s body fell lax against it.
“Very. Sometimes, well this entire time, I’ve found it hard to believe that this is what home used to look like, that Adarr would burn it all.”
Blaze glanced at him before watching the sunset. She peered down at her nation and she could still hear the muted buzz of the people; she could still see small specks of people lighting lamps to prepare for the coming night; she could still see… life. To think that someday all of it would burn…
“I’m assuming you know why he did it. Adarr may not like engaging with us, but he never hated us enough to burn his home away,” Blaze stated.
Silver looked back at Blaze in awe, “After everything I’ve told you, you defend him?! Adarr sets the entirety of Acaesia ablaze, but you claim he doesn’t hate us?! If he hadn’t gone on a rampage, I, and many others would have a home!”
Blaze leveled her gaze with Silver. “So you don’t know what happened. All you see is the aftermath,” Silver gripped the railing, turning towards the scenery before him, “listen Silver, Adarr’s presence is ever present in Acaesia, especially in Raju, we are a nation of fire after all. You won’t be able to convince the people to turn against Adarr, as to do so is to side with Mephiles. That is something I will not allow. But,” Blaze places her hand on Silver’s shoulder, forcing him to look at her, “I will help you. I will help you find what cause Adarr to do what you say he did, and I will help you put a stop to it before it happens. Understood?”
Silver gave Blaze a long look, his eyes glassy. He clenched his eyes shut, to open them with furrowed brows paired with a frown. “Understood. We’ll fix this.”
Both the cat and the hedgehog turned back to gaze at the scenery, the sun had long since set. The reds and oranges that had set the sky alight were now doused with the blues and purples of the night sky’s ocean of stars. The people had quietened with lamps keeping the night-owls company.
The monarch and the time traveller rested upon a balcony railing, softly watching the nation of fire slumber as they wait for a new dawn.
“Thank you.”
