the Moon in Fire feels with everything. her body is full of light and flame. she is full of possibility and passion. she is creation, and art. she is emotion through action, through the sparks and flames and ashes. she burns like an ember. she burns like a star, never put out for long, a phoenix. her emotions are a blossom like a firework.
the Moon in Earth feels with her body. she traces her fingers over emotions like one traces the spines of books. she labels them. she masters them. she expresses them through gold and her hands. they carve her jaw, shape her brow. her emotions sculpt her as much as she sculpts them.
the Moon in Air appears before you as a tabula-rasa-heart. she’s the sky when it’s clear, and yet sometimes, when you least expect, that sky fills. she gathers up the emotions of others and clumps them into downy clouds - angry clouds - tearful ones. she feels, but she feels the most with others.
the Moon in Water feels from the tips of her toes to the top of her head, from her lips to deep in her soul. emotion fills her like a cup, then spills over. she feels and feels and feels. her waters stir when the earth shakes and the breeze comes and sparks alight. she feels with you. she feels for you. her passions mount like the building waves, and shape those around her just as the ocean shapes the shore.

The signs as quotes from Stephen King’s “The Stand”
Aries: “The place where you made your stand never mattered. Only that you were there and still on your feet.”
Taurus: “That wasn’t any act of God. That was an act of pure human fuckery.”
Gemini: “She saw clearly a boy and a man fighting for control of the same face.”
Cancer: “No one can tell what goes on in between the person you were and the person you become.”

2019 Pisces Crescent Moon
Thursday, January 10, 2019, 05:11 UT
Chart erected for Washington, DC
Tumblr media
The Sun is very closely conjunct Pluto here, and makes several other close aspects: semi-square the Moon (of course), semi-square Venus/Sagittarius, sextile Ceres/Scorpio, trine Juno/Taurus, decile (36 degrees) to Jupiter (if you’re into that kind of thing), square Eris/Aries.
The message for the Crescent Moon lunar phase is to “mobilize resources,” and the Moon’s position shows us how (sign) and where (house). Bloch and George, in Astrology for Yourself, give the Pisces key phrase as “My need to commit myself to a dream or ideal and work towards its realization” - part of which process necessarily involves “mobilizing resources,” of course. And, the Moon also makes a lot of aspects: semi-square Sun, sextile Mercury/Capricorn, square Venus/Sagittarius, semi-sextile Mars/Aries, sextile Pholus/Capricorn, conjunct Nessus/Pisces, semi-square Eris/Aries.
Looking at that series of semi-squares - Venus/Sag to Sun/Cap to Moon/Pisces to Eris/Aries - we need to remember that (per Bernadette Brady) the semi-square aspect shows “frustration leading to a null result.” There’s a lot of righteous feminine anger out there, and the fact that the timing isn’t yet right only kindles the fury more. But, we’re still in the shadow of the eclipse, and we’ll remain there until three days after the Lunar Eclipse over January 20/21. Finally, over February 4 and 5, we have a very nice New Moon in Aquarius with lots of promising opportunities. Then, the time is right.
It’s of course good to use this time of “mobilizing resources” - just think a little further ahead, think in terms of what you/we may need next month. Having a strategic target for all that rage would be a clever thing.

Fronts the Signs Put Up
Aries: Agression - Arians are bold and strong but not naturally aggressive in the sense that most think. As the children of the Zodiac they can struggle to express themselves and view emotions in a somewhat immature way. They feel that revealing the soft, loving, delicate part of them that hopes and dreams in ways that no other Sign could ever is a weakness, so they cover it up with a mask of aggression.
Taurus: Confidence - Taureans can seem like the most put-together, strong, and intelligent individuals of the Zodiac but deep down they are afraid. They don’t feel secure emotionally so they put up a front of being above such feelings and are typically materialistic - objects won’t let them down or turn them away, people do. When they feel weak, alone and they need something to rely on, they fake it till they make it.
Gemini: Know-it-all - Geminis have a lot of information swirling around in their heads and they are very intelligent. But they can use this intelligence as a mask. They act like they know it all, as if their knowledge makes them better, because at times they feel like that’s all they have. And if they have nothing to offer, no one will listen to them, no one will talk to them or value them.
Cancer: Sensuality - Soft Cancerians, so desperate for love, will use their sexuality as a method of receiving attention, to make up for feeling unloved, or because their gentler, romantic view of love is not always viewed favorably by today’s society. They need love and true connections which can be stunted by the harsh world around them and lead to this coping method or front.
Leo: Pride - We all know about a Lion’s pride but very few realize why Leos put up this front. In short, it’s because they are insecure. They boast and seek to control the world around them because on the inside they are in fact self-conscious. The next time a Leo seems too abrasive or pushy cut them some slack, they are doing what they can to feel secure.
Virgo: Dependability - Virgos are dependable, don’t get me wrong, but they try very hard to be. Their biggest fear is to be useless. When they are being your shoulder to lean on, in a strange way they are leaning right back on you. They need to help others, or at least be needed by them, to feel worth something. Though they may see so stable all on their own, they truly need others but they aren’t always ready to admit it.
Libra: Perfection - Librans feel they must be perfect at all times, they allow themselves no room for error, all because they care so deeply about what others think of them. They must meet the approval of others, this is their greatest desire, so they seek to appear as perfect as possible whether perfection to them is top grades and a clean appearance or appearing as if they don’t care and are above it all. In reality they are just like the rest of us behind that mask.
Scorpio: Cynicism - Scorpios are not cynical and dark to their core, they are simply afraid to hope. They know the dark inner workings of the mind and society, so love and success can seem like a mere fantasy to them no matter how desperately they want it. Pessimism becomes a shield protecting them from being let down or worse. No matter how distant they may seem, on the inside they are still hoping.
Sagittarius: Independence - To Sagittarius, independence is perhaps the most important thing in their world so when they are in need, instead of seeking out support or someone to lean on, they pretend to need no one. Despite being social creatures who seek to communicate and learn from those around them, they can’t admit that they need someone to come home to at the end of the day, making them sometimes appear hot and cold to others. Instead of seeking out what they need, they put up a front.
Capricorn: Seriousness - Capricorns are ruled by severe Saturn so it only makes sense that they work so hard to seem strong and mature, but this is only another front. On the inside they are trapped children who often didn’t have a proper childhood - sometimes this is simply because they themselves expect too much. If you give them the chance they’ll show you just how awkward, loud, and immature they really are.
Aquarius: Intimacy - Aquarians have a complicated relationship with society. They have a lot of friends and are very social but no matter how outgoing and intimate they may seem they are truly closed off. They want to be social and popular but at the same time they are afraid to grow close to another person, to open up and share their emotions. They fear that they will always be outside looking in yet they also fear what might happen if they truly let go. So they get as close as they can and hide their fear behind a mask.
Pisces: Lightheartedness - That Pisces that always seems to be in their own little world, who giggles and never seems to take things seriously? They are burdened by thoughts and feelings beyond what your average person experiences let alone handles. Their lighthearted, unsophisticated behavior is all a front in hopes of lessening that burden. If you were haunted, would you be strong enough to bear that smiling mask?

The Mercury in Fire tongue is a flame, it can birth so many beauties and destroy them with one touch. The mind is gasoline, churning and swirling with such potential and tragedy and hope. The lips are a spark, prepared to set us all aflame. If we burn, when we burn, it will be together.
When Mercury is in Earth, body and mind are one. I think therefore I am. Each word is carefully structured with the same care a crystal holds in its form. Each thought is forged in slow fires and sharpened as it is pushed to the surface. Nothing is worth saying until it’s been built up, brick by brick, into something unshakable – unquestionable.
When Mercury is in Air, the mind is ever-expanding. As above, so below; the universe surrounds, and lies within. Expansion is the true purpose in this world, and what is the worth of such art if it cannot be shared? Learn, think, speak, challenge, repeat. Consume every concept, seek out every challenge.
When Mercury is in Water thoughts are like raindrops, sometimes heavy in the darkness, and at other times light and sparkling against the skin. They swirl like the tides, shift like the depths, and can disappear in a moment only to reappear once more. Some will never rise from the dark. Heart and mind are not at war, they are one, bleeding into each other, the lines forever blurred.

The Week Ahead: January 7-13, 2019
Just a tricky, tricky week of many minor aggravations which seem to build upon each other. We have early on Mercury square Mars. Normally that’s fairly inconsequential as far as “bad” aspects go - basically, we shoot off our mouths a lot - but, both planets will end up aggravating Juno, who as we all know is already a little on the hot tempered side. Be very careful about  communications with partners, and don’t get any kind of “I know better” or “I’m telling you this for your own good” types of attitudes! (Don’t put up with it, either - there’s a late week trine between the Sun and Juno, too, for mending fences.)
The other issue is Jupiter keying in to the Ongoing Uranus-Neptune Semi-Square, with the first of three sesquares to Uranus and the first of three squares to Neptune. This has global implications, of course. The tendencies are for too much fanaticism about individual freedom (Jupiter sesquare Uranus) and too much misplaced optimism (Jupiter square Neptune). I’m reminded of the Benjamin Franklin quote, “ We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.” I think 2019 will be a year of coming to terms with that.

Tuesday, January 8, 2019
Ordinarily a Mercury-Mars square would begin to fade after becoming exact - especially if you live in the western hemisphere, you may feel you’ve managed to sleep through the square and have nothing to fear. Unfortunately, both planets make applying aspects to Juno - our partners may want to continue the dispute long after we think everything is settled. The Sun and Vesta together give us a sense that we don’t have all the information we need to make good decisions. We could also feel a little off-kilter, a little not quite ourselves.
What’s happening when:
Lunar Phase: New Moon (initiating a new cycle/month)
Moon/Aquarius
Mercury/Capricorn square Mars/Aries, 3:05 am MST
Sun/Capricorn semi-sextile Vesta/Aquarius, 3:52 pm MST
Looking ahead to Wednesday: doubtful and doubting
(Please note that MST is seven hours behind UT.)

The Sun in the Houses
Introduction
The House the Sun resides in represents the area of an individual’s life most affected by the expression of individuality and our unique powers. This is where we seek to make our mark, and how we feel our uniqueness.
Unless there is a House Stellium elsewhere in the individual’s chart, this House will be the most defining in the natal chart as the powerful influence of the Sun is directed there.
The Sun directs us to take action in the areas of life ruled by the House it resides in. We cannot lead happy, fulfilled lives without exploring our potential in these areas. This is an extremely vital contribution to our identity.
These areas of life are also where our egos are allowed to flourish, which means there is a necessity to be cautious of growing too self-confident or self-assured. There must be balance.
Sun in the 1st House
The House of Self
This position bestows great will and passion. The native possesses vitality, an air of confidence, and self-awareness. Their concept and understanding of their own identity is of great importance in their life, and to their overall success as an individual.
Natives of this position take great pride in their physical appearance and what they do and create. They seek to be recognized for what they are and what they are capable of in a way that other natives do not. They need recognition to feel secure in themselves.
They possess a presence that cannot be denied. Leadership comes naturally, along with comfort in one’s own skin. It is hard to manipulate this individual or sway their opinions. The determination this position bestows is far too great to be overcome by any force. Highly ambitious, these natives will work long and hard to achieve what they want in life.
Adversely, natives are egotistical, their individualism often taken to extremes. Despite their air of confidence, these natives are actually quite self-conscious. It can be difficult not to become consumed with the worries of others’ impressions and thoughts. This is especially true when the Sun is afflicted. Such a position leads to compulsiveness and a hunger for power.
Sun in the 2nd House
The House of Possessions
Unlike the Sun in the 1st House which leads to natives taking great pride in their appearance and abilities, the native of the Sun in the 2nd House leads to pride in possessions. Natives are driven to pursue material goods and financial security above all else.
They are determined, faithful, and have strong values. With this determination and drive, they pursue financial wealth. How they obtain their wealth depends on the Sun sign - ie. Sun in Gemini may indicate the wealth will be obtained through intellectual or communicative pursuits; Sun in Virgo may indicate caring for others as a doctor, nurse, or something similar.
Though they seek material possessions, they are typically not unreasonable with their money. Financial security trumps all else. Still, they may not understand that this wealth should be used to actually benefit them rather than satisfy temporary desires above true needs. Despite this focus on money, natives are not greedy but instead quite magnanimous.
There is a tendency to be far too materialistic and superficial. Natives must realize that they cannot believe their worth comes from themselves, not from the objects they surround themselves with. They must shift their pride from the manifestation of their hard work to the hard work itself.
When afflicted, this position may lead to squandering money or the feeling that the native is not worthy of love.
Sun in the 3rd House
House of the Mind
This position drives the native to achieve greatness through intellectualism, academia, and the like. Mental accomplishments define the native’s identity.
The precise nature of this knowledge may shift depending on the sign the Sun is in - ie. Aquarius would suggest scientific endeavors, while Scorpio may lead the native into the occult or psychology, or Capricorn into business. Overall, however, there is a scientific bent to whatever it is the native pursues. This also applies to their curiosity: Natives are highly investigative and driven to learn new, unique things.
Often, they are driven to travel, exploring the world and the many cultures it holds. Restlessness often plagues them, and they are left feeling as if they must be doing something at all times.
Friendship and communication are highly important to this native. Unlike the Houses before it, the 3rd House inspires the native to take pride in relationships. The native often has a unique knack for relating to others, and makes friends with ease. Their open minded nature also contributes to this ease.
Affliction leads to intellectual superiority complexes and the desire to force their beliefs on others. They can be extremely impatient with others, as well.
Sun in the 4th House
The House of Family
Pride in heritage and family is key to natives of this position. The home becomes a symbol of their pride and worth. They seek to showcase their ties and history.
This can also manifest in an interest in the land itself. Gardening, natural resources, and the like are of great importance to them.
The desire to be the head of the family is common. Much of the native’s energy is devoted to the home and family, and if their personal life is not in order they cannot focus on anything else until it is. The foundation of the family and home is one that supports them in all areas of life.
Within the first part of their life, there will be difficulties, and in the second part, prosperity. This is typically because natives understand they must plan ahead, and focus on the future instead of immediate pleasure.
Defensiveness and secrecy are common in these natives. When afflicted, this position leads to a struggle with parents and partners. They can be dictatorial in the home.
Sun in the 5th House
The House of Pleasure
When the Sun’s energy is directed into the 5th House, the native’s pride and power is their creativity. They desire - and truly need - to be recognized for this creativity.
Not only drawn to the arts, natives are often physical. They are interested in sports, and arts that combine the two such as dance. Their nature is competitive, as well, which manifests in these areas.
Romance, drama, and popularity seem to surround these natives. They have an air of regality more often than not, and their brightness draws in others. Their great sense of loyalty contributes to this, as well.
Children often play important roles in their life in one way or another.
Love is intense for these natives, and sometimes all consuming. When the Sun is in Taurus or Scorpio, possessiveness may overwhelm their relationships.
Egocentric and at times far too individualistic, natives often are taken down by their risky behavior and lack of sense. Natives seek adventure and action in life, which can sometimes be dangerous. There is a naivety that characterizes this position and can be hard to grow out of.
Sun in the 6th House
The House of Health
For these natives, pride stems from service. The identity is shaped by how the individual can contribute to society and directly to those around them. They must assist others in order to feel fulfilled and confident in themselves.
Because they take such pride in their work, these natives are hard working but somewhat difficult to work with. They need to feel appreciated, and to receive appreciation for this hard work. When this does not occur, there are often feelings of resentment that form.
They often need to keep busy in one way or another because they feel useless when not doing something.
This position often negatively affects health, ironically. The native may find it necessary to stick to strict diets in order to stay healthy. When well aspected, this position does lead to an innate understanding of their own health and the health of others. When afflicted, the position instead leads to a struggle to understand this part of their identity at all.
Natives must learn that their work should not be their identity in whole. They need a life outside of constant work, and a way to define themselves when not working. Their perfectionism can be difficult to manage, and actively hurt them. Anxiety can be so great it is detrimental to their health.
Sun in the 7th House
The House of Partnership
Pride and identity is found through close relationships. Marriage is their focus, and takes up a great deal of their energy. They take great care to ensure their partners are happy and healthy, making a great partner themselves.
Natives possess negotiation skills, the ability to harmonize with others, and motivation to form positive relationships with everyone they meet. They do their bests when working with others in all areas of life. Sharing experiences is highly enjoyable to them.
When the Sun is well aspected, they easily attract good friends. Their charm is great, and they are typically highly considerate of others.
Rejection can be extremely intense for these natives. Often, these natives put the needs of others above their own, causing themselves great pain and suffering at times. They can even lose themselves in relationships as they identify so strongly with their associations with others.
Sun in the 8th House
The House of Depth
When the Sun is in the 8th House, the native is drawn to the mysteries of the universe. Religion, spirituality, occultism, and the like are all areas of interest. This interest typically develops over the native’s lifetime, and may not be present right away.
Their energy is so powerfully directed to these areas that the natives are grounded in these areas of life, stabilized by these beliefs. They not only take pride in these beliefs, they are empowered by them.
As the 8th House also rules transformation, natives typically seek to evolve and grow in all areas of life, and take great pride in this ability to change. Not only this, but this position is quite severe, forcing the native to grow through quite difficult life lessons. This often involves the relinquishing, or death, of a part of the being.
Often, these individuals will begin as selfish or egotistical and be forced to transform into a more open, understanding, and beautiful being.
There is a certain magnetism about this native that draws others to them. This can be used to benefit the native throughout life.
Emotions are carefully controlled as they are so powerful. The native understands the great influence of emotion, and thus they understand that emotion can be a weapon.
When ill aspected, natives can seek money through unscrupulous means and be quite dangerous.
Sun in the 9th House
House of Philosophy
The native of this position is greatly interested in philosophy: Higher education, religion, law, etc. Overall, there is an interest in society, and influencing it.
There is a draw to other cultures, travel, and exploration unless the Sun sign is Fixed. Even if they never travel, these natives often have a knack for learning languages.
Even if the native is not religious, they often have strong morals and values from which they refuse to sway - even if these morals are misguided. Their ideals are quite grand, and they are impatient to reach them. This can lead to naivete and self-righteousness. Despite this, the native can grow into an open-minded, adventurous, and curious individual.
When afflicted, this position inspired dictatorial behavior, eccentric religious beliefs, or struggles in higher education. They can also be highly condescending and attempt to force their morals on others, even if they are hypocritical.
Sun in the 10th House
House of Status
Responsibility and authority are at the center of this individual’s identity. Natives defines themselves by their success and recognition. Ambition, power, and authority are highly important in their lives.
These natives will work remarkably hard to reach their goals. There is nothing that can stop them when they set their sights on something they desire.
Natives are so wrapped up in concepts of honor and dignity that they refuse to lower themselves even slightly, however.
This is actually a position many politicians possess as it bestows dignity and strong will. On the other hand, this also applies to their morals. They believe they are meant to serve as an example, and act as if they are always being watched in a sense; in many ways this is true, as others will look up to them.
Being lower than others is a struggle for them, and for this reason they must seek jobs in which they are in control. Their leadership abilities are strong, and when they nurture this aspect of themselves they can do great things.
There is a tendency to become wrapped up in material goods. The native’s arrogance is often their downfall, so they must take great steps to control this part of themselves. This is especially true when the Sun is afflicted, and the native may even resort to unscrupulous methods in order to achieve power.
Sun in the 11th House
House of Friendship
Humanitarianism is the most distinct aspect of this position. The native is intensely devoted to equality, and highly empathetic to the plight of others. The concept of human dignity is one that truly shapes the native and inspires them to help others in whatever ways they can manage. Natives take great pride in this part of their lives, too, seeing their devotion to humanity as honorable.
Society in general is the focus of this native. Friendship, group activities, and similar affairs define them. It is not social status that they seek, but connections with others, and many connections will be made.
The openness and tolerance granted by this position draws people in. Not only this, but the native adapts to social situations with grace and ease. It is all too easy for this native to form friendships, but the only issue is that they can be shallow, not truly deep. While these natives can make quick friends, they can also quickly leave.
The native desires to work in groups, and thus gain recognition through groups. This position also inspires scientific and, sometimes, occult interests.
In cases of affliction, the native either uses friends for their own gain or is used.
Sun in the 12th House
The House of the Subconscious
This is a highly introspective position. Natives are focused on their own mental state and identity, and occasionally that of others through psychology or psychic interests. This is where they may serve others, and experience personal fulfillment.
Comfort truly comes from assisting others, the compassion and care bestowed by this placement is so great. Despite this, the individual can find it hard to interact with others directly as they are so shy, particularly if the Sun is afflicted in this House.
The Sun’s energy, when directed in such a naturally dark place, can prove far too much. There is a conflict when the outgoing Sun meets the internal, hidden 12th House. The native can feel torn between these two natures. Individuals with this placement are often unnecessarily hard on themselves, as well.
There is a tendency to avoid the spotlight, instead moving behind the scenes. Alone time is needed to regroup quite often.
Self-pity can plague the native, as can lack of confidence.

Understanding the Natal Chart: Synthesis
Synthesis is the act of understanding the chart as a whole, rather than as separate pieces. While astrology can seem like it’s made up of various, unique parts, everything works together to shape the whole. This makes synthesis one of the most important parts of astrology.
In this post, I’ll explain the basics of synthesis and then provide some examples of synthesis in action, using my chart for ease.
The Steps
This basic guide is inspired by the one found in The Astrologer’s Handbook by Frances Sakoian and Louis S. Acker; this is a wonderful resource to new and experienced astrologers alike.
1. Consider the meaning of the aspect.
2. Consider the orb of the aspect.
3. Consider the nature and combined meaning of the two planets involved in the aspect.
4. Consider the other aspects made to the two heavenly bodies.
5. Consider the signs in which the involved heavenly bodies are placed.
6. Consider the houses in which the involved heavenly bodies are placed.
7. Consider the houses which are ruled by the two heavenly bodies involved in the aspect, if they do rule houses; this doesn’t apply to asteroids, as they don’t rule houses.
8. Consider the heavenly bodies dispositing the heavenly bodies involved in the aspect.
9. Consider the decan rulers and house rulerships of the heavenly bodies involved in the aspect.
10. Consider any aspect patterns.
Continue reading to see an example.

Like all aspects, including natal aspects, synastry aspects between two people can be fostered, nurtured, and strengthened or they can be stifled, ignored, or otherwise allowed to weaken.
When you first meet a person who you have a powerful connection with astrologically, you’ll usually feel something. But that something has to be nurtured.
Even with the “best” synastry chart, any connection - any true relationship - has to be attended to.
Think of being given a flower, one that’s clearly healthy, and though there are no blossoms yet its buds are visible. If you don’t take care of the plant, it’s never going to reach a state where it truly blossoms, at least not to its full potential. Connections, romantic and platonic, are a lot like that. They need care like a flower needs water, attention like it needs sunlight, and work like one needs pruning - even when it’s in the best health, with the strongest potential.

So how does one break out of being a underdeveloped sign (once realised by oneself)? Any advice possible? Not necessarily specific signs. (I, for example, have a very hard time; I feel like I am being washed away by the feelings of my underdeveloped Scorpio every single time.)
It depends a lot on the exact situation. But awareness is always the first step. Try to map out what it is causing the issue - where/when/how it starts, how it develops, what it ends with, and your emotions/thoughts on each step. When you do that, it’s pretty easy to see “x is an unhealthy/unrealistic perception I have” or “I keep making x choices in this situation so it goes wrong then happens all over again.” It gives you a place to start from by showing the precise nature of the point of underdevelopment.
One concept which I’ve found pretty universal, if in different manifestations, is that there are certain situations we will continue to be put through until we “learn our lesson” to some extent. If we remain unchanged, without growth, we will continue to attract the same people, be attracted ourselves to the same situations, attract and be attracted to the same energies, and then we’ll be faced with the same manifestations of these things, good or bad. This is certainly not to say these bad and good things are all our faults, just that there are steps we can take to change things, even when so much is out of our hands.
One small change can make a big difference in these situations.
Watery issues involve giving too much to others and not getting enough in return, devoting too much of the self to outside issues, psychic “openness” which allows for the seeping of energy / the feeling of emotions consuming you. It’s hard to help without knowing more, but these are concepts to consider.

Could the underdeveloped piscean traits be present in someone with Lilith in Pisces? I have some of those traits but Lilith is the only thing I have in Pisces
Undeveloped traits can come with any placement. It’s not just a Sun sign or major heavenly body thing, so yes.
