thinking about how tenna seemed more invested in distracting susie than anyone ! which makes a lot of sense , given what we know about kris now .

between her being the one to suggest movie night , her presence making him relevant again , and her being the kind of teenager who probably CAN still appreciate television ...

i genuinely think the only reason she didn't end up taking it home herself probably has something to do with her parents being the worst , and the very high likelihood their electricity bill doesn't always get paid as it is --- don't need a television screen hitching it up higher .

kris’ crush on susie being confirmed so obviously this early was not what i expected but i love how bluntly chapter four draws the lines of “prophesied and set in stone” vs “bullshit these kids get up to”… its so nice to see what kris wants outside of just escaping our control 😢

" seriously ?? " oh , man --- she can't WAIT to see how her prized jaws measure up to THIS thing !!

susie eagerly accepts the extended golden ore , turning it over in her hands greedily . ( a strange urge to pile this thing onto some kinda hoard twinges in her chest ... ) but it's brusquely disregarded ; the teenager lifts it to her maw and opens wide , sinking her teeth down deeply and gnawing ferociously as they walk .

she strolls into the diner with a grateful grin , glancing down at the shiny bar appraisingly --- only for her face to drop as she registers just how badly she's warped the thing . her teeth marks are deeply embedded , having chewed through the feeble metal with terrific ease . she's messed it up beyond RECOGNITION .

" . . . " susie hastens to cover the evidence of such maiming with her oversized clawed phalanges . but --- she's gonna HAVE to fess up ; omen will want it BACK , surely . who WOULDN'T want their billion bucks bar back ?? ( how carelessly it was handed over is utterly lost on her . ) agonised , she starts sheepishly . " hey , uh , omen ... "

... yet , something pulls her away again . yellowed eyes flicker at the faint sounds of gasping and terrified whispering from one of the booths . doesn't take a genius to twig who they're freaking out over ... violent tormentor susie , and this foreboding figure accompanying her .

eurgh . rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly , twisting her earnest expression into something sour and nasty for appearance's sake , susie immediately begins striding towards the tables at the other side of the diner before continuing her admission . " i think i , uh . messed up your ... gold bar . "

"I should've guessed, really. So much flowery prose to dress up their lack of will, or ability, to fight. I suppose no one wants to bare the title of coward, even if that's what it always leads back to."

Though, upon reflection, perhaps the world is better off with cowards advertising themselves. Makes it easier to pick out the weakest, the easiest to mold. Without cowards, where would they so easily source cannon fodder from?

At the uncertainty they frown, ultimately dismissing it with a shrug. They were ultimately prepared either way, as they said, it was just an adjustment.

"Here, then, while we walk."

The former overlord reaches into their spike-filled cloak, producing a solid gold bar which they pass to the teen with little fuss. Even if it wasn't much use as is, who were they to deny her desire to gnaw on something expensive?

Pushing open the diner's door, Omen held it for the other to enter. They weren't exactly sure how much small gestures such as these moved the needle, but it didn't hurt to try regardless.

the only good susie ships are the ones where " something there that wasn't there before " from beauty and the beast fits perfectly ( that's all of them )

kris headcanons : it's only you .

kris little loser truther ... kris " never had a partner before susie " truther ... kris " always on the outside looking in " truther ...

the way monster kid makes a big deal about how they should have waited for kris instead of settling for snowy , but we come to find out they've never actually had someone willingly work with them before --- or not for a long time , at least ... having to " partner up " with their own mom , not because they aren't generally liked , but because they aren't anybody's first choice .

the way berdly so quickly muscles them out of working in a group of three with noelle in chapter one . the way they were so grimly desperate for her to include them before he did !! ( yes . ask . )

it slots in well with my headcanon that kris withdrew a lot and became so absorbed in escapism , still clutching at memories of childhood , protecting themselves by neglecting themselves and their former friends .

as a result , everyone has moved on without them . they all kept growing and connecting with each other during those formative years where kris retreated , and they still like kris , but ... wanting them hanging around in their well - established friend groups ? trailing after them like a lost puppy ? that's different . it's just all so self - inflicted .

the way they're clearly so sheltered . toriel holding their hand as she walks them into school , making a big deal over small accomplishments to the point that she forsakes punishing them for " ignoring " her calls purely because they made a friend . fussing over them all the time , fretting over them to alphys .

yet in other ways , they're permitted to have their own knife , an ominous red wagon and birdcage in their room that toriel surely purchased for them , that she knows they possess . they're a human . they're so strange . nobody understands them , or knows what to do with them . they don't think that's just teenage angst talking .

it's loneliness . so much loneliness . they don't know how to make it go away . when susie started picking them out from all their peers , homing in on them specifically when the urge to torment would strike , it was almost a relief . in the most twisted , awful way .
