we’re getting into BOOKS again, kids. we’re out here reading BOOKS. it doesn’t matter if it’s YA lit or elementary school readers or “”great classic”” novels or comic books or even creative non-fiction. we’re reading BOOKS and we’re having FUN with it.

How to Ditch Amazon
Support your local libraries and the small businesses that are actually making the products you want. Fuck Jeff Bezos and the systemic, universal worker abuse, gaslighting, and brutality they live off of.

This graffiti appeared overnight at 5 different job centres in Birmingham.
It’s referencing the increasingly harsh benefit sanctions in the UK which are punishing disabled people in particular.
Claimants who cannot work due to severe disabilities or chronic illnesses are being categorised as “fit for work” in order to meet targets and are not being given enough money to survive.
The majority of people who legally challenge their benefits sanctions or ‘fit for work’ decision have them overturned, but only after months without the money they need.
Estimates generally put the number of people who have died in the last few years directly due to benefit sanctions in the thousands. These include people who have died of starvation, exposure, because they couldn’t afford electricity to keep their insulin cold, or because they couldn’t afford treatment, among other things.
The DWP has even sent letters to people declaring them fit for work when in fact they have already died from their illness.
Fuck the DWP and job centres.
Good job, whoever painted these!

Conversation
Μαριλένα: Δύσκολο που είναι αυτό.
Ζουμπουλία: Ποιο;
Μαριλένα: Αυτό. Να είσαι απόγονος ενός τέτοιου ανθρώπου, να κουβαλάς ένα τόσο βαρύ όνομα. Όλοι περιμένουν από σένα να συνεχίσεις την πορεία που άφησε κάποιος άλλος. Το ξέρεις ότι ο παππούς μου έχασε τη μισή και πλέον περιουσία που του άφησε ο πατέρας του;
Ζουμπουλία: Γιατί;
Μαριλένα: Γιατί δεν ήταν ίδιοι, Λία. Ο ένας κέρδιζε παράσημα κι ο άλλος τα πουλούσε, για να ξεπληρώσει τα χρέη του. Μόνο αυτό σώθηκε. Και γω αν το δεις τελείως ψυχρά μόνο τ' όνομά του κληρονόμησα. Στον κύκλο μου, βέβαια, αυτό μετρά ιδιαιτέρως, αλλά στον κύκλο μου μόνο. Έτσι δεν είναι;
Ζουμπουλία: Τι εννοείς;

Quote
I call my gender confirmation surgery “getting a sex change” not because it’s more direct and honest, but specifically because it (the phrasing) is inaccurate and outdated, and that makes me laugh. Not because I’m a fearless truth-teller but because I’m a bad person. And /I/ get to call it my “sex change operation” but cis people don’t get to call it that, because it’s /my/ darkness, not yours.
