i just dont think we talk enough about how brave and cool it was for taylor swift to make a music video that centers around her doing a choreographed dance solo. people, including herself, have poked fun at her dancing for her entire career. she even made fun of herself with the shake it off video. but it was just so cool of her for delicate to be like “ya know what? i dont have to be amazing at something to enjoy doing it anyway”. i think that is such an important, overlooked lesson from the delicate music video.

Welcome to a new series I’m calling Midnights Mayhem With Me. I’m going to be using this technological advanced device to help me allow fate to decide exactly what track titles I’m going to be announcing and in what order. In this cage are 13 ping pong balls, labeled 1 through 13 each representing a track on the Midnight album. So let’s leave it up to fate. (ft. Meredith)

It’s the way that the music industry didn’t really function in eras until Taylor came along save for Madonna, the fact that people didn’t take Jack Antonoff seriously as a producer until they started working together and now he works with everyone, how the inclusion of a song on her playlist or a Twitter shoutout/TikTok sound makes labels promoters and audiences sit up and take notice + pays the artist’s bills, and that streaming services now have to pay musicians and writers more equitably because of noise she made. It’s the fact that so many current country girlies are able to create pop-leaning tunes without pushback not to mention the freedom female artists in particular now have to write about their lives because she absorbed a ton of the sexist and misogynistic criticism not to mention that she is often artist’s first call when they face bad press for the first time. It’s the way so many young artists are now negotiating for their masters right out of the gate, how more musicians are working with Aaron Dessner and recording music at long pond and how a 10 minute #1 flies in the face of A&R executives saying audiences have no attention span anymore or that storytelling matters less. Basically, Barbara Walters was right all those years ago;Taylor Swift is the music industry

I have, in my mind, secretly, established genres categories for lyrics I write. Three of them, to be exact. They are affectionately titled Quill Lyrics, Fountain Pen Lyrics, and Glitter Gel Pen Lyrics.
