people defending STARSET's use of generative AI in recent videos with the point of "it's to make a statement on how bad it is and how bad we are" completely miss the part of the issue that is regardless of intent STARSET is actively contributing to a larger problem of, you know, AI being an active threat to the environment of the planet. The point of the message is lost when the message itself is actively contributing to a major part of the problem. If it were just a commentary on how this AI is or could be the death of art or something else so undeniably human in nature, and if genAI itself didn't have this effect on the planet, maybe I'd be more charitable towards the idea of it- but that's just not the case. Also, as far as I'm aware they never made any real statement on why they're using genAI, so idk where that argument even came from
