At least 20 Palestinians were killed and many others

injured in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. These attacks occurred shortly after a ceasefire agreement was announced, set to begin on January 19.

According to Anadolu, an Israeli air strike targeted a residential area in Gaza City's Al-Nasr neighborhood, killing 15 people, including women and children. Numerous individuals were injured, and some remain missing under the rubble.

In another strike, Gaza's civil defense reported to Anadolu that three members of the Nabeh family lost their lives when their home in Gaza City was bombed. Further south in Khan Younis, Israeli warplanes attacked the Lahham family home, resulting in the deaths of two Palestinians and injuring others, as stated by local paramedics.

These air strikes took place hours after Qatar, Egypt and US mediators brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Despite the announcement of the ceasefire, many residents remain anxious and uncertain about the future, hoping for peace but facing ongoing danger.

Gaza's Health Ministry has documented 4,500 amputations, including upper and lower limbs, since the beginning of Israel's genocide in the besieged enclave.

About 800 of the amputees are children, comprising 18 percent of the cases, while 540 women account for 12 percent of the amputations.

Zaher al Wahidi, the head of the Health Information Unit at the ministry, emphasised that the figures highlight the enormity of the humanitarian catastrophe facing the civilian population, particularly the most vulnerable groups children and women.

He added that the number of amputations is likely to continue rising as the genocidal war persists, exacerbating the already dire strain on the health care system, which is grappling with critical shortages of medical supplies due to Israel's ongoing blockade.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz accused the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of seeking to turn the occupied West Bank into rubble, as it did in besieged Gaza.

"The settlers in the West Bank see what's happening in Gaza, and are envious," Haaretz said in an editorial on January 8.

"While most Israelis view October 7 as the greatest disaster in the country's history, some on the right see in it an opportunity, and even the beginning of the redemption," Haaretz added.

On January 6, Netanyahu approved a series of military actions in the occupied West Bank.

While Netanyahu's Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for destroying the Palestinian cities of Jenin and Nablus in the occupied West Bank, illegal settlers called on Defense Minister Israel Katz to launch destructive military operations in the occupied West Bank.
