The most ADHD thing about this blog is that I keep posting to the wrong blog (this one 😂)
Got my results back today. “Mild to moderate attention deficit disorder”. I won’t be starting meds or anything but at least I can stop feeling horrible for asking for help.

Executive Dysfunction Strategy: Prepare an Action
With my type of executive dysfunction, often the biggest problem is just starting things. I know the floor needs to be vacuumed. I know the recycling needs to be taken out. I know I need to start cooking the stew so I can eat it later. But I just can’t seem to start it.
On the other hand, If the cat asks me for food, it’s easy to get up and feed him. If someone asks me to do something or just says “do it now”, I can usually do it. I just need that trigger.
So here’s a strategy lifted from Dungeons and Dragons: preparing an action. During combat, a player can, instead of taking an action on their turn, prepare a specific action to be taken when a specific trigger happens (ie, the character is hiding behind a door and if an enemy walks through the door, they’ll attack).
So I know a task needs to be done, but I can’t start doing it. I choose a trigger I know will happen soon, and I prepare my action. Examples:
The next time I get up to go to the bathroom, I’ll also wash the dishes.
The next time the cat asks me to feed him, I’ll clean the kitchen floor first.
When this video I’m watching ends, I’ll start writing that article.
When the clock hits 12:30 (I can even set an alarm), I’ll start cooking lunch.
Just about any combination of triggers and activities can work. It’s not 100% effective, but it definitely helps. Maybe it will help some of you as well.

about adhd
it concerns me that people really don’t know that adhd isn’t a personality type or behavioral problem.
adhd isn’t someone who’s personality is driven by fun and disorder.
adhd is someone who’s brain goes all over the place looking for dopamine, because it doesn’t make or register enough of it, and when it finds a source of dopamine, it hyperfixates on it. it’s about deregulation of attention as well as emotions.
it’s not a person who can’t behave. a person with adhd can look like a lot of things. misconceptions about what adhd looks like kept me from even looking for a diagnosis, and it also kept myself and others (professionals, even) from taking my suspicions seriously.
everyone’s encouraged to reblog, but if you don’t have adhd, keep your additions to the tags.

it's so stupid, adhd is a dozen vaguely related neuroses in a trench coat, including such popular hits as
Can't Fucking Sleep Disorder
Can't Fucking Wake Up Disorder
What Is A Focus
Oops I Did It* Again (*Spent Thirteen Hours On Youtube And Forgot To Eat Or Drink)
The World Is Too Noise Today
All My Friends Hate Me (I Deduced This From A Three Word Text)
I Forgot About [thing] Literally As Soon As I Turned Around
...and they decided to call it Trouble Sitting Still Disorder?????

I tried to convince my ex boyfriend to stop using the r slur. We more or less broke up over it. It’s funny that he didn’t realize that I was personally offended, and not just sympathy offended.
I would’ve held the same beliefs about that word regardless of my sexual identity or mental deficiencies anyway, but... ugh he was such an awful person.

One time in about sixth grade I hyper fixated on desserts. I made whole background compilations of brownies, cakes, cookies, you name it.
That was probably the cue I was just starting my first menstrual cycle, because I was. It’s nice that subconscious functions manifest themselves in disorders.

Emotional disregulation can create eating disorders
Did you know that simply thinking about food is a hunger signal? Did you know that if your stomach is growling, if you are light headed, cranky, jittery, or feeling desperate, then you have been ignoring your hunger far far too long?
I sure didn’t. So if you are a fat person like me who has spent their whole life ignoring your hunger, dieting, restricting, and basically over-riding your body’s natural cues in every way possible, this article is a real eye opener.

Adhd is so weird because ghosts could be messing with me and moving my stuff and I literally wouldn’t know. That chair wasn’t there a second ago? Oh well I must have moved it without thinking. The tv was on all night? I guess I forgot to turn it off. Did I leave this window open? Probably.
