"No worries, man. You're good." He put a hearty hand on Javi's shoulder, grinning. "I dunno why I bother going into these cafes anyway when all I drink is black coffee anyhow." Atticus pulled out a cigarette, held it between his two fingers. "How are you, man? You alright? You seemed kinda...frazzled for a moment there. Fair enough though, working at Kingsley does that to a man."
open starter ! @scrubshqstarters location: code latte, queens.
arms up in protection of his head and the cinnamon role he'd purchased tucked safely away in a scrub pocket, javi stumbled hastily out of the café and into the street. just managing to soften the blow of his brushing past an unsuspecting passerby on the way, he immediately flashed his best smile. "ah, sorry!" a momentary pause, the smile still firmly in place. “i would offer to buy you a coffee to apologise but i'm scared if i go back in there it won't be the menu i'm hit with... but something much more substantial."

Atticus took the random coffee cup to his surprise. The woman seemed confused. "Not quite my order but I'll never refuse a cup of coffee. Or cookies, for that matter." He took a hesitant sip, not used to the cream as he usually takes his black. It was a nice difference.
Another sip. "I'm a medical professional too. Endocrinology." He attended his hand, smiling faintly. "Sounds like your day was exciting. Atticus Peters, pleased to meet your acquaintance."
💋 open to anyone, uncapped, @scrubshqstarters.

“ hey ⸺ i wasn’t sure how you take it so i just went with safe; no sugar, splash of cream. it’s a coffee roulette. ” she lets out a soft chuckle, clearly amused by her own words yet her gaze is stuck in the patients card right in front of her as she’s occupying what was the last free bench with a table. “ also, i brought cookies. not surgical-grade cookies or whatever that is, they’re warm and sugary and not from the vending machine, which is probably a treat for your stomach, eat up. sorry, i’ll be with you in a second ⸺ ” she’s frowning, her focus fully on the pieces of paper as she’s flipping through the pages; almost as if she’s hoping to find an answer in what she has memorized anyway. “ okay. i’ll take care of it later … oh my god, listen up ! i just assisted on this gallbladder removal that my intern had, you know, the big solo surgery ? and she just sneezes in the middle of it. like, full sneeze. mask on, obviously, but still ; i didn’t see it coming and i almost handed her a clamp instead of suction, she’s avoiding me ever since and … oh shit ! ” a green straw from her medium strawberry lemonade slips out of her lips as she finally bothers to make an eye contact, only to realize this is not who she was supposed to meet up in between surgeries.

「 lewis pullman, cis man + he/him 」🔬 ‧₊˚ ⋆ ــــــــــﮩ٨ـ did you page atticus peters from endocrinology. they’re the thirty two year old attending at kingsley memorial hospital, they’ve been working here for 4 years. you’ve probably seen them if you catched a up to bandaged fingers, sticky note-covered walls, hot black coffee, pill bottles, the patients that do like them would tell you they are passionate and encouraging, but some of them think they’re secretive and moody. time is rushing, just go and find them.
TW psychiatric hospitalization
Atticus Peters had an unusual upbringing. His parents brought him up in a SoCal commune that focused on community, fellowship, and carrots; they farmed vegetables for a living which made for a quite volatile financial situation. At one point, Atticus remembered eating raw produce for dinner because his mother and father could afford nothing else. Atticus yearned to be “normal” like his classmates – he just wanted to play video games and eat Pop Tarts but life had other plans for him.
“Your father, he…he just needs some time away, alright Atty?” Atticus didn’t quite understand why his father needed to be “put away” sometimes but that maybe it had something to do with that incident where he was arrested for public indecency. Or maybe when he went on a hunger strike for a week or so because of the “injustices of the world.” Perhaps when he told Atticus that sometimes he can hear his mother speak to him, except that Atticus’s grandmother passed away before he was born.
Atticus knew that he was going to be different from his family. He loved them but he needed stability. Atticus excelled in his studies and got a full ride to a local college. In school, Atticus found medicine but started to struggle. “I’m going to become a doctor,” He told his girlfriend at the time. “Alright Atty,” she looked at him with concern.
Atty started to act strangely too, you see. Started to not always make sense when texting his drinking buddies. Started to spend exuberant amounts of money on his girlfriend, so much that he ran up an entire credit card. “I’m doing this because I love you, Jessa!” It ended with a psychiatric hospitalization and a severe breakup. With no relationship, Atticus threw himself into his studies and graduated with honors.
Currently Atticus works at Kingsley Memorial as an attending in the endocrinology unit. He’s finally tasting that stability he desperately craved as a child and eventually wants someone to share it with. For now though? He’s happy with his Brooklyn apartment and his Siamese cat, Gregory.
