one of the things im most glad i learnt is that the human voice is so powerful that if you tune it right the overtones within the notes you're singing can reinforce and trick your brain into making new notes on top or underneath
and yes, it can be explained using science, but sometimes i like to imagine that you're hearing generations of people who came before singing along too and that they're singing those notes themselves
and it's a nice thought, i think

Every Tube Station! 8/272 - Covent Garden
Birthday post! (my birthday was yesterday but shhh I didn't want to make the post yesterday)
To start off, funny story about Covent Garden: At the bottom of the stairs in the station (yes I took the stairs o_o;) there's a sign saying '193 steps, equivalent to 15 floors'. This immediately sounds off to the mathematician in me, so I had to check this. Turns out, multiple other tube stations also say they have 15 floors worth of steps, with wildly different step counts! Russel Square: 175 steps! Hampstead: 320 steps! Both say 15 floors! (FYI: 15 floors is actually around 270 steps, based on the 17cm steps the underground uses)
Anyway, I didn't actually spent much time at Covent Garden itself, I only went to go to the transport museum eheheheh Unrelated but, why did they have the christmas decorations up already? It isn't even halloween yet 😭 Either way, enjoy some pics of Covent Garden!

Based transport museum

Also at the moment there's a gallery of previous artwork from the tube! Here's a selection of my favourites:

After this, I decided to walk down to the river, where I took some more photos.

I got bored so I went to Waterloo to take the waterloo and city line (lol). They have a cool depot if you look past the platform! After this I decided to walk around the City of London for a bit. The signs got me lost actually. I tried to get to the Barbican, but ended up in the Borough of Finsbury? This borough doesn't exist anymore! (It merged with Islington in 1965, but it's cool to see there are still signs retaining the history)

Well, that marks the end of my day! Hope to see you for my next post!

Every Tube Station! 7/272 - Holland Park
Final station of today! The current edition of the paper tube map has a very cool cover, with newspaper clippings and photos of previous pride events / activism. The art says 'come out, come out', encouraging people to "'come out' and be together, in protest, in celebration, in resistance, in solidarity, in fragility and in strength." I'm gay btw :) (more info here: https://art.tfl.gov.uk/projects/come-out-come-out/)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, I also had to take some photos around the station. The architecture is very interesting actually, kind of reminiscent of the northern part of the Piccadilly line. Also inside the station there's a bridge above the tracks eeee trains oh and maze art! (the lights inside the station were weirdly dark, much darker than any of the other ones. weird.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After this, I went to Holland Park itself. A beautiful park with a very pretty Japanese garden. Also they had some turtles and a sundial idk it was cute
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To end off my day, I visited the design museum! It had some very cool exhibits about using materials sustainably, and another about the history of emails! (the emails one is ending tomorrow btw :() Also it had trains and tube maps eeeeee
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this finishes of my posts for today! I forgot to include this in my post about Notting Hill Gate so here's a link about the black history month art: https://art.tfl.gov.uk/projects/barby-asante/ See you guys next time!

Every Tube Station! 1/272 - Fulham Broadway
Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog! Today marks the end of my first week in London, and the start of my tube journey - here's to many more! In this blog I plan to visit every tube station (however long it may take!), and take account of the local area, amenities, attractions, museums, parks, you name it! I will also include some of my photography, and maybe some tube trivia while I'm at it. I will probably be posting once or twice a week. Let's get to it!
My journey starts at Fulham Broadway. A strange place to start, maybe - it isn't one of the most famous stations, nor the most spectacular. The reason I'm starting here however, is quite simple - I was helping out with a stand for a society at my uni. We then had a relaxing lunch at Eel Brook Common. A very scenic park - at only 2 minutes walk away from the station, if you're in the area it's definitely worth a visit!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then parted ways and I walked up to the river to see the Roca gallery. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take any pictures inside (still snuck one in though!), but they had a very thoughtful exhibit about designing small spaces. There were case studies from all over the world - Tokyo, Hong Kong, New York, and of course, London. It was very interesting to see the inventive solutions architects came up with to work around very small apartments, and it was free entry too - would highly recommend!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up is a walk around Imperial Wharf. There are some amazing skyscrapers in the area, and you get a beautiful view of the river. The park is also excellent - they have aroma, sight and touch gardens. A spectacular variety of plants to cater to the senses - a delightful experience! The park is also very relaxing; the nearby skyscrapers block the sounds of the road so you can only hear the rustling of the leaves and the sounds of the river going by. They also have many cafés in the local area - a great place to go for lunch!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally my day out comes to a close with the return to Fulham Broadway station. Of course, I had to find the maze artwork (on platform 1). And the view from inside the station is amazing! There is a bridge across to the other platform which gives you a great view of the train tracks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, that concludes my recount of Fulham Broadway station. Hope you guys enjoyed, and hope you tune in for my next blog post! (sorry if the image quality is sub par, I'll try to fix it for the next post. you can check them out on my insta tho! (check my linktree))

one of the consequences of brexit that I didn't expect was that the weather in the UK would also not do what the rest of europe is doing, which seems to be uh. on fire
