that’s why i looooove this plot so much because of how normal and mature it was handled compared to other plots in mcd.

mcd plots have always been ‘BIG TEAR JERKING TRAUMA’ or just ‘silly funny whimsical anime tropes xD’

but nicole and dante’s relationship looks well thought out . it was literally just two adults dealing with adult problems and solved it in an adult way, albeit a few years later. i like how people aren’t forgiven right away, the aftermath feels kinda awkward but they’re trying to overcome it, dmitri obviously wants to get close to his father but there’s still bond that needs to be built up, kc and nicole don’t ‘fight’ over dante as soon as the cat’s outta the bag—

idk, watching that plot after growing up, i really appreciated how good and refreshing it felt compared to the drama that happens in mcd

The whole situation with Dante, Nicole, and Nana has been resolved. I don’t think y’all understand that. All of them said their worries, gave their feelings out, apologies and so much more. Nicole even AGREED to drop Dimitri off monthly so he could spend time with his other family beside her. They have a mutual friend family system and are content with it.

this is an interesting topic bc in some cases i think it just comes down to misogyny

not blatant misogyny but more internalized (???) like in a when a girl goes through an ‘ew i hate pink bc it’s girly’ phase kinda way. yknow, product of living in a patriarchal society that makes women feel inferior therefore we internalize it and some people play into what a woman ‘should’ be and some want to break away from what a woman ‘should’ be and etc etc yaddah yaddah we all know this by now.

as a kid, i used to just hate on aphmau bc she’s just plain and simply a woman being unapologetically a ‘stereotypical’ woman??? (and even now there’s still traces of that in me after growing up)

if that makes sense?

like on the surface level aphmau is just a normal woman who loves kids, is in a happy relationship with a man, loves to help people, loves the color purple, loves anime— and there’s no rlly… ‘cool’ woman trait that she has. and also a bit of a mary sue bc it looks like the entire show revolves around her (which duh, she’s the main character) , has had multiple characters pining for her. reminder that i’m only talking about her on a surface level. not on my interpretation of aphmau etc etc

and ofc if u look closer u’d be able to find that she’s not rlly that simple etc etc.

but, seeing a character like that, there’s this kinda envy i used to feel because she seemed comfortable being a strong woman. she didn’t try to play it off as cool, she didn’t try to change and i think now that’s just pretty cool. it literally took me years of exploring my gender identity to finally realize how cool it is to be ‘feminine’ or to be a ‘woman’.

I do feel like it’s a little weird that this fandom is so willing to woobify certain male characters and ignore their canon very shitty actions but will hate on Aphmau as a character for being… the main character… as if that’s not the entire point.

Like this isn’t sparked by anything specific recently, just me thinking about how weird fandoms can be sometimes. And I’m not pointing fingers at any particular person. But I see more hate for characters like Aphmau than I do for characters who have either explicitly, or implicitly, done awful things. Just because she’s kind of op and sometimes annoying.

I’m not naming specific characters bc I frankly don’t care whether or not you like them. It’s neither here nor there, I know I’m one to talk with being an Aaron fan and all… but like… this is a frequent enough issue that you can name any male character’s genuine flaws that people defend them for, and compare them to the kinda stuff Aphmau gets criticism for… and hers is far more easily justified.

I get that it’s the block show and you can do whatever you want, but I just think it’s a little unfair that canonly-implied sex offenders get to be goobers but Aphmau is designated to the mud pit of hatred no matter what she does.

i was gna write a massive paragraph but i found it funny how anon is tone policing other anon (who was being pretty agressive and not passive)

yet this entire post feels like

To the confession that said: “I don't understand why people care about mischaraterization. That's someone else's interpretation of the character, not yours, and that's ok. Like, does it affect you? No. Does it harm anyone? No. So why do you give a damn?”

This really rubbed me the wrong way. First! Let’s not be passive aggressive about it. When you PUBLICLY post your interpretations of a character in a fandom, the fans are allowed to say: “Hey! That’s not accurate.” There is a difference between your headcanons of a character and completely mischaracterizing and misanalyzing the entire point of a character’s existence.

It can be annoying for people who really are passionate about that character and find comfort in it, so when you decide to put that thought out in the world, it CAN in fact affect them.

So yes, other fans can give a damn. Because you don’t get to analyze a character completely wrong and act like it’s the same character. At that point just make your own OC, because you are NOT talking about the same character everyone else is. I don’t mean to sound rude, but being close minded about this sort of thing while trying to act like you’re open about it really rubbed me the wrong way.
