Alone. Yes, that's the key word, the most awful word in the English tongue. Murder doesn't hold a candle to it and hell is only a poor synonym. Austin Chambal | 23 | Author or the writer or the man with a dog Residing in Dark Hills Publishing Co.

“Hey wait, are you saying I’m incompetent? I can take care of myself.” He paused realizing how childish he sounded. “Okay, maybe Misty helps a bit.” Another pause. “Okay, a lot. But I still know how to take down a couple of those things!”

She fell silent for a moment before nodding, her gaze falling to the dog for a moment which prompted her to smile. “Good to know. You take care of him, girl,” she murmured to Misty before glancing up at him. “Lord knows he needs it.”

He had been soundly asleep, having a pleasant dream about something that he couldn’t remember when the noise of the the front door opening startled him awake. He didn’t move except to slid his hand underneath his pillow for the gun he kept there. If it was a robber Misty would have barked, but she was laying on the foot of his bed, ears perked but not doing anything. Then the voice called out and Misty was flying off the bed barking her low yips of excitement. It was Kira, not somebody coming to slit his throat while he laid in bed. He sat up quickly. “Oh one second, I’ll be right there!” The room to his office was open but the curtain he had hung across it blocked any prying eyes from the main room with the printing press. He slipped on a pair of jeans and a shirt, the same ones he had been wearing yesterday. Maybe his next find should be a bin to wash clothes in or something. He yawned as he moved aside the curtain. “Hello Kira! And did I hear you right? You come bearing.. gifts?”

Kira checked her bag before securing it shut and slipping out of the library, blocking the exit so the walkers wouldn’t find it. She moved quick but quietly through the buildings, her eyes darting around from time to looking to see if she was in the clear. She only ran into one walker the whole trip to the building where she had met Austin and his dog. But it was a quick thrust of the knife to the back of it’s head before heading off, being careful not to fall on the slick, cold ground. Kira made her way to the building and made her way inside, making sure to seal the entrance as tight as before. “Hello? Austin?..It’s Kira.. the blonde who likes to read? I come in peace and I come bearing gifts.”

“Thanks. Sorry,” he said shaking the last of it from his hair. “Not usually this grumpy. I’m Austin. You are?”
She covered her mouth, “Oh I’m sorry.” she didn’t mean to make him sneeze. “Bless you.” she then dusted off the chalk from her clothes.

“Pretty certain you’d be better off finding that in some dark corner of the internet, not in a horror book. And never once have I gotten a reader saying: ‘You know what? This would be better with zombie genitalia!’ Nope, doesn’t happen.”
“True horror fans would be totally down for reading about that. I mean, I would.”

“Have I ever-” His eyebrow raised. Had he ever killed another survivor? A bit out of the blue wasn’t it? “Uh no. Never had to. Misty usually scares the bad ones off. And are you saying I’m weak? Is that what innocent means in this context?”
Ryleigh chuckled a little, “Oh boy..You seem awfully innocent. Have you ever killed someone alive?” She asked the stranger, knowing it was something odd to ask when you have just met the person but it would give her a better view on the other.

The guy seemed very very very nervous of Misty, which almost made him want to crack a smile. Misty? Sweet little Misty who’s entire lower body wiggled when she was excited Misty? She was more likely to lick your skin off than bite it. “ It’s a she, not a thing, and her name is Misty. She won’t bite, unless you threaten me, of course. ” Those were the only times he had seen Misty become aggressive. He put away his gun, putting it back in his jacket pocket. Misty was enough a threat to this man.
“ Well what were you looking for? ” He glanced at the body, and saw the blood caked clothes looked like they had been riffled through. What on earth would be so important to touch that gross mess? Maybe the body had a gun on it? Or maybe a pack, but he couldn’t see any. “ What’s important enough for you to poke around that body? ”
Heaving breathing as Jake watched his opposite lower his gun. In turn, though it took him a moment, he lowered his hands. To his misfortune, he’d not only been found by someone with a gun, but with a dog — which was almost equally as threatening as a gun. In reality, the guy hadn’t truly put his weapon away, had he? Jake almost felt like just leaving his hands up.
A look of disgust appeared in the eyes of the coward as his attention shifted from the animal up to its presumed owner, “ Ew, no. What? ” He started in reply, shaking his head. “ I was just… looking for something. ” Dark brown hues found their way back down to the canine; he didn’t want to keep his off it for more than a minute at a time. Paranoid, he gestured, “ That thing bite? ”

☆ : Would they ever wish upon a falling star? If so, what would they wish?
Austin knows the concept is silly, after all it’s a burning chunk of rock falling through the atmosphere, but that is just something so human- to place magic in the ordinary- he can’t help but wish. And he would wish what every other person right now would wish for: the world to return to normal.

☎ :List three or more people they would call out for during an emergency?
The first person Gwen would probably call for is Callum. She doesn’t feel like he has an agenda and he’s already offered to help her and the dog out. Next she’d probably call for Austin. They connected over their dogs and she can see that he is a good person. Then she’d probably call for Olivia. There’s a sort of understanding there, she feels like if she freaked out and needed help Olivia would understand her.

❤ : Describe a physical action that shows complete trust.
As cliché as it is- hugging. Throughout his entire life he found the gesture to be startlingly intimate, so if he hugs you that means he completely trusts you.

“There was never any such DEAL to begin with. And I’ll be perfectly fine if you leave — I’ve got Misty and we were alone before you found us.”
“I don’t — the DEAL wasn’t to stick together indefinitely. I don’t do duos or trios or whatever. If you ever need my help again… I’ll be around.”

“Where were you stationed in the outbreak? And yeah, the entire world wasn’t prepared, least of all the military. Well maybe they did slightly better then most people. Same here, though no way to put anything I’ve learned into something useful as it’s mostly other survivor’s stories. I mean who wants to read about some other poor shmuck’s fucked up life when they’ve got their own to deal with right? I’m doing fine, I think Cheyenne is better off than most elsewhere as I’ve heard. We’re organized at least.”
“Yep. It’s been a rough year and I’ve got the tags to show it. Sorry to crush your hopes and dreams, pal, but nobody was prepared for this shit. It is a learning experience, though, and I’ve learned a hell of a lot. How are you holding up here?”

“The kind who knows what his readers want? And that’s not talking about about a rotting body’s genitals.”
“No offense, but what type of horror writer are you? I mean are you really a horror writer if you haven’t ever thought of zombie genitals?”

“I did actually do that once. Got detention and called Ahmed for three hours cause apparently the Californian public school system didn’t teach anyone the difference between Turkey and India.” He sighed as he brushed the white dust out of his hair and sneezed. “Excuse me.”
She blew the chalk dust in the air “Like you haven’t wanted to do that in school.” she said with a smile as she glanced at the other person.

“You’re military? And I knew there wasn’t going to be any saving force in here, I saw the clusterfuck that was 790th get slaughtered out on the streets. Could only find that mess was the 790th from their patches. No, the military is gone. I guess I was just... curious.”
“Oh, they’re long gone, buddy. I don’t know how to break it to you, but they flew the coop once shit hit the fan… so, that makes me the next best thing.”
