Don’t do racist or ableist things as “spooky” Halloween costumes.  This includes thinking critically about costumes, party themes, and activities BEFORE you do them.

One of things you need confront before you ever think about having kids, is that your kids are not going to be you. Those kids might end up radically different from you. Don’t ever say that if your kids aren’t exactly like you, that they’re bad people. 

There are a lot of different people in this world. All we want is to be happy and secure in our lives and in ourselves. There are a lot of different ways to be happy and secure and to do good in the world. Do not be your kid’s bully. Guide them to whatever way helps them be happy and secure and able to do good in the world. 

You might not understand your kid’s definition of happy and secure. But your kid will be infinitely better off if you help them come into their own, rather than force them into being someone they’re not.

These clauses are underhanded ways that corporations seek to deprive you of your right to participate in class-action lawsuits and your right to a jury trial. (This does only apply to us users ,other people still spread the word though )

the first day of my hand drafting class in my senior year of college, after the prof taught us how to frame up on the drafting table and went over how to use the tools we'd bought, he had us all take our pencils and make a mark on the top right corner of the vellum. then he walked us through the setup steps - the border, the title block, etc.

and he told us to erase the mark.

when someone - rosie, i think - asked what the mark was for he smiled.

"if you give a novice student an expensive, blank piece of paper, they panic. they think if i start using that i will ruin it. so the first thing i want all of you to do, any time you stare at a blank piece of paper, is to ruin it a little and take the pressure off yourself. pencil erases. anxiety has to be managed."

i hated that man for a myriad of reasons, but that was some of the best advice i've ever been given.
