So like a lot of people who watched The Pitt, once I was done I started watching ER, and let me tell you this show is wild.

First off, cameos. Any random episode you've got Clea Duvall, Bradley Whitford, Zax Efron, or Ewan fucking Macgregor. There are also actors on the show for longer like George Clooney, John Stamos, and Mariska Hargitay.

The plot is also all over the place. A few examples:

A plot: ethics of forging medical charts b plot: uh oh this emotionally constrained doctor is gonna be a father c plot: mark greene is a disney dad tm d plot: jerry tries to catch a genetically engineeted mouse

A plot: this PA has AIDS and her struggles, b plot: the growing pains of consolidating two hospital staffs into one, and c plot: Jerry tries to lure an escaped kangaroo to his backyard

A plot: union drama and a nurse goes to the dark side (admin) b plot: dr pratts daddy issues c plot: lets sneak a baby monky into the hospital to be treated

warnings: it filmed from the 90s to the early 2010s, so there is some pretty dated stuff in there. AIDS is a big topic for a while, lots of unadressed mysoginy, racism, white saivour episodes, ableism etc. The episodes filmed after 9/11 go super hard on the patriotism fyi. There's also a lot of unethical relationships power dynamic wise, and lots of heavy topics such as SA, death (obviously for a medical drama), mental health issues, neglect and abuse.

But on the bright side: the cast is quite racially diverse for a show filmed in the 90s-2010s, there's lots of great acting and stories, they had a great story line humanising a woman with HIV/AIDS, a really cool lesbian character, and theres a ton of episodes. Its also not super graphic with blood/gore etc so if that kind of thing is upsetting you can still watch it.

Medium things: there are large stretches of episodes that are great, and then there's stretches that aren't so great.

Dick: Yeah, wouldn't want you to "change your mind" like with the piercing. You did promise, after all...

Bruce:

Dick: And it would be pretty villainous of you to break your promise... again.

Bruce:

Dick: Alright, that's all. Bye! *runs away*

Bruce, quietly picking up the phone:

So, the other day, when I was discussing AO3's policy on solicitation, a tumblr user came at me saying that AO3's "no monetization/solicitation" rules were "bullshit" because nexus mods allows fan created mods to get paid.

saw an elderly woman walking around with a tote bag whose design were the four AO3 fic category squares and she very excitedly asked if i was a reader or a writer bcs nobody else at the con had recognized it, and after telling her that i've been writing fic since fanfic.net, she solemnly nodded and explained that she'd been reading fic since "the days of personal websites" but that she only started writing fanfic when she was 47 and oh my god when i tell you that i genuinely teared up on the spot!!!!! like!!! HELL YEAH???? LITERALLY NEVER TOO OLD TO START WRITING. NEVER TOO OLD TO WRITE AND SHARE YOUR FIC.

her enthusiastic "i'm a very nice and bubbly person, i swear! but i love writing angst and major character death :)" nearly took me the fuck out.
