it’s not that olivia doesn’t know what sex is. her memories of it are hazy and buried under years of systematic repression, but she’s aware of the basics. she’s twenty-four, she’s emotionally a virgin, and at this point, if anyone says the word penis around her, she’s going to have to kill them.

sorry, she doesn’t make the rules. 

so it’s astounding that the Olivia Miller Recovery Task Force would think to enroll her in sex-ed with a bunch of children wearing their parents trench coats. the task force is supposed to be in her best interest, but jesus, it feels like her best interest is jumping head first into an industrial wood chipper. maybe a hydraulic press. at this point, she’s not really picky. 

she keeps her head down in the back and, even though her therapist says it doesn’t work like that, she tries her damnedest to fully dissociate from the situation. 

being on the verge of eighteen here means practically nothing, not when adulthood around these parts means another two years of the embarrassingly awkward mundanity of being of teen, which includes this particular coming of age movie cliche rite of passage. 

adam only sits in place, thumbs twiddling and switching between staring down at his shoelaces, his phone with a game broadcast on mute, and the chalkboard. being over six feet tall doesn’t leave a lot of leg room anywhere, let alone this tiny desk; add location and context, and it’s just discomfort on discomfort. the instructor goes on with their spiel and he gets enough bits and pieces to wince with the realization that they’re required to talk to their table mate. about what? well, he’s grabbing at straws for exactly what ‘cause he hadn’t been paying attention either. 

“so...” adam trails off, head turning after tossing up do or don’t. it doesn’t help that a teacher’s first instincts to check if everyone’s on task is to hawk-eye and hover around the back row. clears his throat. pregnant pause. “consent! and stuff. that’s good.”

i know i’ve been mia but !!! i’m still down to write something esp for the event! adam’s a new yorker so seeing his home city looking like this is ??? really weird and scary but its time to tough it out like any cool kid avenger would

and it’s not the good kind. not the sort that means hah, you’re kidding me, or oh word? it’s nothing but pure denial of something that is terrifyingly, unbelievably real. just seconds before they’d been on the other side of the globe seconds from devastation until a single snap delivered them across the globe to drop them off—where?

he registers the murmurs spreading about, ‘616, earth-616, there’s another earth—’ and he thinks to himself, ‘i don’t believe it.’  but the picture speaks for itself. the inside of the building is familiar only because the school is just as familiar with his presence as a student, one of their own, in fact, and at the same time it doesn’t feel right.

pulling out to the streets of downtown new york doesn’t make it any better. one step and his heart drops, plummets straight to the pit of his stomach with the dead-cold realization, this isn’t home. 

frozen in place, it takes minutes before he can return to his senses. he looks down for his hand. status check: nothing  in his fear, fight or flight instincts have flipped on the camouflage controls, out of sight, out of mind from the rest of the pack. but that’s not what’s on his mind right now, not when a certain shapeshifter seems to have disappeared as well. 

panicked, he looks around, trying in vain to spot a fleck of green somewhere, anywhere? he returns to being visible at the faint sound of squeaking. “hojun?!”

ROLL OUT

it’s not a practical idea by any means, but he’s been anything and everything but about making wise decisions. boyhood bound and boyhood brevity, and being around someone as cherubic (hah!) as jumi only makes it all the more easier to toss the left side of the brain out the window. 

in short, so what if she has the wings to be able to fly out to touch cloud nine? with that train of logic, he should be swinging around 24/7 as his genes have allowed him to do. but that’s the magic of having a mutation, you can do so much more than that. 

so here they are, adam, a seventeen year old skater spidey, and jumi, the faerie first timer. they’re moving at steady beginner speed, with the boy making sure to hold onto her hands tight as he practically pulls her along on the skateboard. “see, noona?” adam grins. it’d be way off to say this isn’t a first time for him either—he’s never really imagined himself in a teacher role, let alone one for someone who he looks up to. “not tony hawk just yet, but i think you’re onto something!”

just a disclaimer that he’s heavily inspired by miles morales, both from the og comics and the recent spiderverse movie (if u couldn’t tell from my app) but obvi w/ some notable differences...ya! moving on

born and grew up in nyc, mom is korean and an instructor at the first avengers academy based there n dad is nigerian and a diplomat

he’s got a younger sister too named carol but her powers are tba cause she’s still a kiddo

enrolled at the american avengers academy in his early teens

then there was a foreign exchange program offered to go to the school based in sk

mom was like this is a great way to reconnect with ur roots!! adam’s just grateful that he’s got a good grasp on the language bc communication u need it

so he’s got the little fish in a big pond feeling atm...still kind of new

now he’s just out here swinging about improving on his abilities day by day

also in a golden trio of future heroes w/ @avhojun​ and @avjumi​ and theyre GREAT

kind of really misses home too but like thats a given when ur so far away

fun fact: when he skateboards he can make it camouflage and stick to flat surfaces like the rest of him so it makes for some rlly wicked tricks to show off

idolizes spiderman in all his different forms and feels like he has to live up to those expectations bc of his spidey powers 

personality wise v earnest, nerdy, loyal, humble n just trying to do the right thing

probably constantly underestimating himself too but
