avatar week 2015 - day 7: rebirth

the avatar’s duty is to protect the world and maintain its balance. in order to fully achieve this goal, the avatar will be reborn until the world has reached peace.

notes: the unknown avatars are referenced from legend of korra’s book one finale. also they’re out of order because i decided to keep my sanity and draw some of the easier ones. plus some of the ones in the reference pic were out of order so ?????? idk.

To commemorate Chapter 2, here’s a family portrait of Mako’s kids! One thing to note is that Mako did end up marrying Mai-Ling, General Iroh’s oldest daughter, in the story. These two also happen to be Vahni’s grandparents. Together they had three kids: Naoko (girl in the back), San II (boy in front of Mai), and Phuong (the toddler).

(I did want to replicated Mako’s family portrait, so I used that as a pose reference)

Im just going to say that your never going to amont to the legend of genji. Your trying to hard and it's not going anywhere.

I wanted to answer this just because I know that this isn’t the first message, nor will it be the last. 

When I started this blog, I wasn’t nor will I ever try and compete or try and be like the Legend of Genji. What they’re doing is amazing and they’re doing their own thing over on their own project, just as I’m doing here.

We’re two vastly different blogs, and there’s plenty of others like us creating continuations of the Avatar Cycle with their own creative vision. We shouldn’t be competing with each other, but we should be supporting one another. Everyone has a different idea, vision and generalized depiction of what they want to do. 

To send hateful messages like this is just a tool to tear people down in order to build yourself up (for whatever reason). So, thank you for creating an example and allowing me to showcase toxic natures that do exist in all corners of fandoms, websites, and overall the internet.

Finally! Imbalance Part One preview pages!

These come from Bookmanager, an online platform used by many smaller book retailers like Armchair Books and Bolen Books (so the previews are available across all the sites powered by Bookmanager).

It’s pages 56 through 61 in a 72-page story so it’s from near the end of the book, but it doesn’t look like there are any spoilers.

Not a lot going on in these pages– we get to see a bit of Cranefish Town (the precursor to Republic City) and we get a hint of the bender-nonbender conflict the trilogy is supposed to be about.

The main thing we’re getting from these previews is a really good first look at the art style and writing– both are awesome! The characters look and feel like themselves! :)

And don’t forget we did get some (unfortunately unreadable) earlier preview pages from the beginning of the book at NYCC, showing Team Avatar’s arrival to Cranefish Town. This new set also feels pretty unplanned so it’s likely Dark Horse is still waiting to release the official preview at some point closer to release (even though we already have Ruins of the Empire previews and that’s 7 months away…)
