Itâs getting cold outside so what do you do? You bundle up of course!
But what if you donât have a winter coat? There are 1 in 5 children whose families cannot afford the luxury of a winter coat in BC.
Coats for Kids has been collecting new or gently used coats for children and teenagers for over 20 years and last year was able to give over 3000 children the warm winter coat they needed.
At Aveeva, we want to give back to our community so we are collecting coats from November 14th until the end of the month.
Our goal is to collect 10 new or gently used coats! But other cold weather items such as gloves, scarves and hats are also welcome!
Coats can be brought to the clinic during your appointment time or dropped off when the clinic is open and will be taken to a collection point at the end of the month.
Please help us keep kids in our community warm this winter!

Dry needling, similar to acupuncture, uses very thin, sterile needles to relieve muscle pain. Â While acupuncture generally focuses on addressing the flow of energy or âqiâ in the body, dry needling is more focused towards relaxing specific muscles in the area of your complaint.
Taut, hypersensitive bands of muscle form through injury, poor posture, overuse, or other muscular stresses. These bands, called Trigger Points, can contribute to both acute and chronic pain and cause pain to radiate out to different areas of the body (eg. A trigger point in your shoulder may cause pain in your wrist). Â In conjunction with other physiotherapy modalities, dry needling will relax these trigger points and aid in treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
The process of this modalities is this: thin needles are inserted into the trigger point (painful point in the muscle), and left or manipulated for a short period of time. Â This will cause a twitch response- similar to a small muscle spasm- as the muscle reacts to the painful stimulus and works to correct the cause of the trigger point. Â As the muscle works out its imbalances, it relaxes and resume its normal functions with less pain.
There should be no excessive pain during this technique, nor a sharp pricking sensation. Â You may experience a slight ache or re-creation of your symptoms while the needle is inserted, however some patients donât even notice. Following a dry needling session you may feel tired, but there should be no lingering effects. Â Unless your therapist has recommended otherwise, you can continue with your day as normal.
You may feel the results of the needling right away or it may take 1 â 2 days before you notice any difference in mobility or pain levels. Â Depending on your condition, 1 dry needling session may be enough, though it usually takes several sessions to create a lasting effect.

I highly recommend Meredith Wilson as a physiotherapist. Over a period of a couple of years I have received treatment for both hip and shoulder injuries, both of which can be difficult cases. I have found Meredith to be thorough and diverse in her treatment options. She listens to you as a patient, and her own experience in different athletic activities, brings valuable personal insight/experience to your treatment. One very important concept for me is that Meredith tracks improvement (in some cases literally measuring) to treatment â measured results gets you out of the physio office and back doing the things you love.
