i’d like to think that for maybe a few months or even a year or two after jason officially leaves the legion he dresses super eclectic. like think matthew gray gubler type levels of mismatched. cause he’s just trying so hard to figure out who he is and what he wants himself to look like because he can do that now.

like it’s just a year of him going “yes i like these pants” (they’re navy blue corduroy) and “this is my favorite t-shirt” (it’s a bright green shirt with a wolf pun on it) and he just wears that and piper tries her hardest not to make fun of him because he looks kinda crazy but jason is finally being his own person so she bites her tongue.

jason finally understands why leo almost crashed out after a bad haircut because his hair is part of himself. jason never understood that before because until now his body didn't even belong to himself; it belonged to the legion, to juno. but now jason has a very similar reaction when he thinks he might have to wear a shirt that's a very similar purple to that of the camp jupiter shirt. he never picks up a piece of fabric that color purple ever again.

eventually he calms down and settles on softer, lighter colors that make him feel calm and fabrics that aren’t as scratchy as the camp jupiter t-shirts. he keeps his hair longer than it was before but still out of his eyes. he thinks about shaving it sometimes for convenience but then remembers that he isn't a soldier anymore. piper and leo don't bring up his year of trying to find himself because they're just so relieved that jason is finally becoming his own person and they never want him to feel embarrassed about that.

psa that what’s traumatic to a child is not the same as what’s traumatic to an adult.

yes things like physical abuse, sexual assault, trafficking, etc are obviously extremely traumatic to children.

so are many other things.

moving homes. family dynamic shifts. stressed adults. having adults try and lean on you for emotional support. bullying/teasing. and so much more.

you are not trauma free just because you it wouldn’t hurt you as much now. you are not trauma free because someone else has it worse. these things can and are devastating for children and can and do resurface as trauma caused mental illnesses, attachment issues, and bad coping skills later in life.
