But since the inauguration, I get it.

My friend lived on a kibbutz in Israel for a while and the cats there were sort of like barn cats in rural America- part stray, part pet, part worker, keeping the field mice out of the agricultural supplies. I'm proud of the hard working cats!

As a former state-level ACLU employee and a career civil rights lawyer this is all great.

I'll add that ACLU lawyers are putting not only their reputations but their safety on the line. They get threats from people across the political spectrum (especially anti-abortion groups one of which, fun fact, I represented through the ACLU to defend their speech rights). My office had bullet proof glass and a double lock system. We weren't allowed to walk to our cars alone.

These are true believers fighting the good fight at personal risk.
