there's smtg about taggie's look here which i don't think rupert has ever seen directed at him before from any other woman? how seriously she considers him, the clear conflicted thoughtfulness, the 2 parts girlish true love for him with the 2 parts woman's doubting intuition--

for the first time, rupert is faced with the female gaze that sees him for who he really is, and that's delicious (for the audience, that is)

and it's only when he literally and figuratively turns his back on her that things change--
