Avril Corroon is a new media artist based in Dublin. Her interest is in both the incapability to act independent of the constraints on human action and the ability to influence behavior. Her work incorporates performance, video and immediate action often playfully toying with the role of the organizer as art in operation.
Currently working in her final year towards achieving a BA in Fine Art Media in the National College of Art and Design, Corroon has studied in The Muenster Art Academy Germany on Exchange Programme and has also curated and exhibited internationally there. Last summer she initiated a 12-week residency in John’s Lane, Dublin 8 for a collective of 11 artists concluding the project in hosting an exhibition. In collaboration, Corroon set up an art education programme for adults with learning disabilities. In completion of the project the artists curated the exhibition Connections. She has co-managed a weeklong workshop and collaboration programme Art Design and_____ utilizing a vacant property.
Münster Kunstakadamie darkroom, where I've spent most of my college time here living in the dark. The facilities and equipment are excellent and have allowed me to practice and improve continuously through out my summer semester on erasmus.
Sometimes in here I feel like I'm sneaking around the Star Trek Enterprise and that we've lost power under Vulcan attack.
