Super tense. I had to close my eyes a few times. Had 100% too much T. J. Miller.

I started watching this because I love alternate reality stories. What I did not love was the early reveal that evil J. K. Simmons came from a world that was recovering from a global pandemic that had wiped out billions of people, and now everyone there are hand sanitizing stations on every block and people are afraid to tough each other. cool cool cool cool.

sometimes people say to me “if a book doesn’t hook me in the first chapter, I give up on it” and I think that is generally a good philosophy but then I would have missed out on this book which did not hook me until the last few pages.

I recently did a bit where where I made up a film featuring three guys I know as characters and vanessa hudgens was my fantasy casting for one of those guys.

I read this in one of my first undergraduate classes at university. It is the first time I can remember being asked to earnestly apply critical analysis to a work of art, and I loved the experience. Looking closely at the book and asking questions lead me to a richer understanding, and I remember this book with much fondness.

I sometimes think that augusten burroughs and I had some of the same emotional experiences when we were young

The series started in 2004 and just finished this year. Every time a new volume came out I reread the entire series. It’s hard to explain why I like this series so much - it’s fun to see the art evolve over the years, the story takes an age to really get started, and sometimes I feel weird about how everyone in the town has a similar aesthetic. All I know is that when I finished reading the last book, I felt satisfied and sad and thought, I’m going to miss these people.

this show is extremely funny, even if the guy who created it is a piece of shit.

no hot takes here, friends, this was an amazing special. what made this special so amazing is how wildly it diverged from what we expect a stand-up routine to be. stand-up tends to be always the same thing, someone standing on a stage and saying funny things. Hannah Gadsby did that but then did something completely different from that. She kind of broke the genre.
if you like that kind of thing, may I also recommend Tig Notaro’s “LIVE” album, which I think does the similar trick of giving you something you never would have expected.
