cannoli might be the cutest thing I've ever seen, I've always dreamed of having a pet pigeon some day. how hard would you say they are to keep as pets? compared to a dog or something more common. resources on pet pigeons are fewer than I'd like
(also, please tell cannoli I love his cute looks)
Hey! Mm well I had a lovebird before and I would say the experiences are pretty different!
The level of noise and destructiveness of a pigeon is much lesser than a parrot's, however they're just as social! As opposed to parrots, pigeons are domesticated animals so there's no real issue with them actually bonding with you as their mate - which is likely to happen if you have just the one. However, that means that if you don't have several hours of free time to spend with your bird every day, it's preferable to get a pair so they keep each other company.
Also, assuming you'd want to keep it in the house, pigeons are DUSTY! Their feather dust is very fine and can be harmful to breathe in the long run, so it's highly recommended to invest in a good air purifier and avoid placing the cage in your bedroom.
Pigeons can make really wonderful pets, although like any other they're not for everyone. They're messy, dusty and can be bitey sometimes. Since you mention resources, I'll leave links to guides covering many things such as housing, care, nutrition, behaviour and much more in the comments of this post. I'll also link to the CPC discord server: a nice community of pet pigeon keepers and enthusiasts!
And thanks for your kind words, Cannoli says you're making him blush!

He's not evil, just hoping to get himself a valentine still :(
#The Harris hawk's cackle call can pop up in different situations and its meanings aren't fully understood#But often it seems to be a sign of excitement or frustration#Aramis is currently fat and hormonal (it's breeding season)#I noticed earlier this week that he'd call out like this during meal time which he's never done before#He's also gathering sticks and seems to be playing house#My boy has become a man :') /lh#Aramis#Harris hawk#Parabuteo unicinctus#Falconry#birblr
