You are not 'hard to love' or even 'unlovable'. There is no things like that. People just forgot how to put effort in what they admire because they expect everything to work without having to do something.

If someone says you would be hard to love, they surely are not the one for you. They are lazy and you probably would end up in a relationship that's one-sided anyways.

You are worthy of love, you've always been loved and will be loved forever.
