dante does all sorts of carnally-pleasing stuff to avoid examining himself mentally/emotionally, like playing mind games, doing drugs, committing acts of exaggerated violence and pulling life-threatening stunts. he's pretty cunning and great at running mental circles around other people, but when it comes to his own well-being, he can be rather reckless. that's on purpose, though, i suppose... if ever there were a fine line between cold calculation and brainless thrill-seeking behaviour, it would have dante's name written all over it.

and here is the said magician who appeared in the nick of time to offer klaus a helping hand. my beloved deuteragonist of tethered, yves :] his full name remains a secret for now

yves (he/him) seems to be everything klaus is not. he is endlessly charming, eloquent, and cunning. whereas klaus proves himself to be a person of action, yves proves himself to be a person of impeccable diplomacy and weaponized pleasantries. he appeared from nowhere, and seems to have roots nowhere. this lack of worldly attachments seem to support yves' claim that he is an extraplanar being, if not the sheer amount of raw magical power he commands. yes, he did claim that. it will prove to be very difficult to tell if he's lying on that point for klaus. regardless of his integrity, yves vowed to expend every effort to help klaus recover his memories. in exchange, klaus was to swear fealty to yves, which yves claims klaus had done once before, only both parties had forgotten about the prior pact (klaus for obvious reasons, but yves alleges he had forgotten as it had yielded no entertaining results). oh, yes, and klaus must help yves become a god. yves seemed quite serious on that front unfortunately, hence the difficulty telling whether or not yves is lying. yves is either an incredible actor, incredibly delusional, or telling the truth. with a personality like his, all three could be true. only time can tell now.

what better way to christen this blog than to post a reference of my project's protagonist, klaus :] tethered is the name of my project!

klaus lierstark (he/him) is a mercenary who lives in the mountains. he's spent his entire life up until very recently hunting monsters and defending his home region. he got quite good at it (and remains so), but the problem with being a good warrior is that you often live long enough to see the brutal deaths of your peers and friends in battle. another problem is that you don't necessarily learn how to cope with loss and the effects of a violent, turbulent lifestyle, either. so it turns that klaus reaches great success as a mercenary - going so far as to earn himself infamy and a fearsome title - at the expense of his sanity. however, this all fails to remain relevant as klaus one day wakes up with several years' worth of memories having been purged from his own mind. his presence garners inexplicable fear and disdain from familiar faces and spaces, and with a ghostly power breathing down his neck and threatening his home region, klaus has to race against time to recover some increasingly vital memories. not to worry, however; he gains some excellent - if not extremely dubious - assistance from a magician who appeared out of thin air to aid him.
