i don’t think we’ve talked about the possibility of abby and mel actually not looking that dissimilar.

like what if abby is also pretty in a very girl-next-door way? what if she’s got long wavy blonde hair? and what if her eyes are a soft caramel brown? and what if she’s got a perpetual flush high on the apple of her cheeks?

and what if mel only sees her for the first time almost on accident a couple of months into her relationship with frank. and this is it, this is the other show dropping for her. because of course, of course mel would be a rebound for frank when it’s been barely 4 months since the divorce. so of course he’d just go for the woman who reminds him the most of his ex wife and mother of his children.

the break room scene in ep9 gets me every time because the first time i watched it i assumed langdon was going in with this soft careful tone of voice to say ‘this is a tough place for sensitive people, maybe this isn’t the place for you’ and listen i liked langdon since ep1 but something in me didn’t expect him to be so understanding and empathetic. that ‘we need them badly, i need you’ is so crazy important to me i want it tattooed in my brain

like, yes this is a difficult place, and yes you feel like you can't do this, but i can see your potential and i can see that your strength lies in your kindness and empathy and it's important for you to know that i need you here

i can't imagine the whiplash mel felt in that moment - to go from this expectation of being let down gently that this isn't the place for her, to being reassured that not only does she fit in, but she is needed

Frank Langdon turns into a dog crack fic.

Makes a deal with the devil to be allowed to return to the Pitt right away

And he does get to return — no rehab, no record — but as a dog 🐕

dr Robby basically adopts him. Robby loves that dog, even though he’s too excitable and basically useless. It’s everything Frank has ever wanted.

But he’s easily distracted and favors Mel over everyone, and always finds her when she’s had a difficult case. He will whine by the door to the stairwell when he knows she’s hiding in there until someone lets him in.

He is popularly referred to as “Mel’s dog”

Dr Robby is secretly (not-so-secretly) jealous of this

He is bothers Dana a lot. She finds the dog both entertaining and exhausting.

Everyone makes fun of Santos because the dog (the sweetest dog) is always growling and snapping at her. “Santos, what did you do to that dog?” Santos throws her hands up. “I did nothing! Dogs usually like me.”

He also snaps at Garcia but in a more playful way.

The one thing he can do to be useful is comfort dog-friendly patients during stressful waits. He will cuddle with them while the other doctors and nurses are busy. (Maybe this is how he breaks the curse.)

Patient satisfaction scores are going up, so even after the great “hide the dog” conspiracy fails, Gloria has to admit that maybe they should keep the dog.

Though there is a troubling incident where a patient threatens Dana and the dog goes absolutely feral and attacks. Robby tries to defend this because security is too lax and really they could use a guard dog.

The dog makes it harder by overreacting anytime someone takes even a slightly negative tone with Mel.

Collins is deeply suspicious of the damn dog

In my rewatch of The Pitt, I pay closer attention to some details, and I really like how Langdon hands the gloves to Mel first here before he takes a pair for himself, and the smile that blooms on her face at that!

That might be an automatic gesture from him, but it's precious!
