no no no it does come from his name! .....unfortunately.

his actor is called richard stites, and while being a horrible (and with VERY confusing n crazy lore) person irl, a lot of the supporting cast were just named after their actors; or had nicknames that were based off of their actor's names so it's okay stick can have the same name but is totally a different person 🙏🙏🙏

(as someone in the replies has already mentioned) the "st-" came from stites and the "-ick" came from dick, the common nickname for richard. but the fencing relation DEFINITELY might lowkey play a part into it as people (esp in the 50s) were crazy for pun nicknames so that still works so well as a bonus that would have realistically totally have made people choose to go through all that letter gymnastics on his name to justify calling him that :]

today i was thinking -- why do you think Stick's nickname is "Stick"? i think it's unlikely it comes from his surname like the others.... until i realized that maybe they call him Stick because of his ability to fence, as shown in one of his very few scenes. what do you guys think????
