Demon was my buddy for 14 years. When I was down, he was by my side. If I was crying, he'd let me hold him and cry into his fur. I'm missing him something fierce today as I'm making a very hard choice. I have been lucky enough to spend the last 9 years as a stay at home mom. Learning and perfecting my craft. I was gifted a job two years ago. Last year we were forced to move, and nearly doubled our rent. But we thought we'd be fine, but the company I worked for made a lot of changes, and let me go. We thought we'd be fine with one income while we wait for AZA Studio to take off, but this just isn't the case. I have to get a regular job. Which is daunting. Not only have I been out of the work force for nearly nine years, but I have a 14 year old felony that 90% of employers can't look past. (Not all felonies are the same, but we all deserve a second chance and the right to work and contribute to society) AZA Studio isn't going anywhere, I'm still going to work hard at getting it going, but without a start up loan, I have to get a job to financially support this endeavor. This has been the hardest skirt I've ever done. The patterns direction was poorly written for my dyslexic brain. It needed pleats on the top and side. After many hours, I figured it out, though the pick-ups I did what I thought looked best. (Needs a few more) Momocon is on Thursday. I'll get this done. Fabric choice is everything. I wasn't paying attention when I grabbed this navy blue off the shelf. When I got home and looked at how thin it was, I should have stopped there, but I kept going. Then when the vinyl didn't stick right, I should have stopped. It stretched in weird ways, and left the square pillow cover shaped very wrong. "From failing, you learn. From Success, Not so much".. Meet the Robinsons.. In my pursuit of making a business on geek decor, I went out looking for fabric that I'd want to have in my home with a flare of fandom. I quickly went to work, thinking of how to put everything together. Everything has turned out beautiful and each piece I would want in my home; but in this journey, many things went wrong. My squares aren't perfect, so what's supposed to be 16x16 ends up being 15.24 x 14.5 because a lot of the time, I'm working with extreme headaches with a fog over me. How do I have the authority to make and sell when my health condition allows for many mistakes? Well, I could wallow in self pity (which I have every right to do, and I did all morning) or, I could call upon help, make sure I get a good square pattern with seam allowances, and pin and make each pillow cover slow, and with love and care each deserve. I love to sew. I know I can make beautiful things. I have the skills. I just need to learn how to work within my new reality. I'm not a robot, I am a human, with a medical condition that knocks me down hard sometimes.
