Here’s something else I’ve been curious about.
This quiz is about novels only. Or, if you will, works of fiction that tell a story and that you are typically expected to start, read till you reach the end, and then finish once you do so.
Reference books (e.g.) are not typically meant to be read cover to cover. This poll is not about them.
By “read” I mean “reading from cover to cover like it was your first time reading it”. Flipping through a book you like is Good and Cool but not within the scope of this poll.
#It's almost always because I have enjoyed before that I reread books#I think the only time I reread one because I felt like I didn't understand it was with#The Remains of the Day#and I'm really glad I gave it a reread

— The All Blue will always be doubted by many. But no answer lies in words, only in the sea. When the time comes, sail for the Grand Line.

‘Child, I am many things. I am very old and powerful. I can be in many places at once. I have been a god. I am most definitely the smartest person you will ever meet. But I am not a witch. I am the exact opposite of a witch. It's unfair.’

I became a massive Dragon fan when it was revealed that he had been a Marine in the past. Because it means that he saw all the bs that the World Government is doing and he chose not only to leave, but also create a whole movement against them.
That was a choice. To simply leave and take a stand. To actually do good for the regular people of the world.
Marines convince themselves that pirates are the biggest threat in the world, when the organization they represent does all the awful things pirates can do but on a much bigger scale. This is why Garp is a huge hypocrite. He believes this even after decades working for the Marines, probably seeing all kinds of atrocities done by the WG (what they did to the women in Ace's mother's island or God Valley for example). And his son, the only member of his family to actually believe him and follow in his footsteps, spent only a short time in the Navy and, in his own words, "saw no Justice there". And he had the balls to create something that would stand up for the people the Marines either ignored or actually harmed.
Oh and if Garp wanted to do something from within the Marines he should be more like Fujitora. My man is a whole Admiral who refuses to listen to Celestial Dragons, doesn't pointlessly chase after pirates when they aren't harming anyone, prioritizes helping civilians and even helps the Revolutionary Army free slaves because *NEWSFLASH* that is the right thing to do!

"Do you know," I said, "what happens to the hero at the end of the stories?"
"Depends on the story."
"They go home," I whispered.
I felt the room vibrate around me. Jorgen's coffee appeared on the table again, though three of the chairs vanished.
Are you . . . are you all right? M-Bot said in my head. The delvers are going wild right now, Spensa.
At the end of the story . . . at the end of the story, the hero came home, and found herself transformed . . . into someone who didn't belong, and could never belong, with the people she'd left behind. It was the same in almost every story I'd read.
Heroes didn't get to stay and live in the new world they helped create. Even if I pulled off some kind of miracle and saved my people . . . that would be the end of it. For me.

“Wouldn’t that be a sight? Renarin Kholin dancing on a rooftop while…”
In the Sanderlanche in Oathbringer there’s a brief moment when Renarin mentioned he felt like dancing, so to celebrate my 1k milestone on Tumblr I decided to let him dance with Rlain. :D
Thank you for being so patient and kind with me and my art. Whether it’s now or 5 years ago, I’ve always loved reading the tags and comments people leave under my posts. Although I make art first and foremost for myself, the fact that people can find joy in the things I create makes me want to dance and spin around as well. Thanks for being here. 💜
