Almost-Yoongi

You looked up at Yoongi. Your eyes wide, as stars filled them. With a gentle smile, Yoongi breathed out, the smoke that was filling his lungs leaving him. In slow motion, he ground the cigarette onto the ashtray that Jin had bought just for him. His hands rested on your waist, his head tilted as a small smirk played on his lips. With a small sigh, you played with the edge of Yoongi’s shirt. A shy smile hinted at your feelings as you muttered unspoken words to the elder. 

Yoongi was leant back, his hand twitching for another cigarette, having not been able to finish the last one. Still, he kept his eyes on you, his heart warming as he tilted his head. With a shaky breath, you leant forward, your lips just brushing with Yoongi’s. With a hitch in his throat, Yoongi’s grip on the counter tightened, his head leaning forward as he subconsciously chased your lips as you stepped back. A ghost of a smile on your lips.

So many words were caught in Yoongi’s throat. All burning with something to say. All with meanings attached to them. With the words caught in Yoongi’s throat, he simply brought his right hand to your hair, catching a strand and twirling it around his finger. A sad smile full of unspoken feelings had replaced his smirk, his eyes gentle as he scanned your face. 

Almost. He almost said them out loud. Almost changed everything. Almost made the jump. But he didn’t. He couldn’t. Slowly, he drew his hand back, gripping the counter once more.  With a final tilt of his head, he watched as you brought your bottom lip in between your teeth. With a sigh, Yoongi silently placed a hand on your waist, bringing you in closer. His head resting against your shoulder, Yoongi could still feel his hands tremor. 

Almost. He almost gave in. Almost let his feelings overtake his actions. Almost gave into that second kiss that would set up so many expectations. Hearing your soft breathing so close to him, he almost wished he had. But deep down he knew he couldn’t. So he stood, in the silence of the kitchen, hoping you were alright with almost.

Time stood still amongst the dust and cobwebs. The attic preserved generations of forgotten family ties as rays of the setting sun seeped through the dirty windows. Jungkook sang a  quiet tune, his angelic voice bouncing off the old wooden walls. He had his back to you, sifting through old letters and age-stained documents. He tsked to himself, slightly quirking his head to the side, and set whatever he was looking at aside.

You pushed yourself up on the landing from the ladder, the old floors creaking beneath your feet. That sweet melody of his ceased and he turned to the noise. His eyes crinkled as he smiled at you over his shoulder before turning back to the birth certificate in his hand.

Clutching at your shirt you struggled to breathe, it felt as if the weight of the world had settled on your chest. Keeping you from getting enough air in, or out, the feeling made your heart pound in your chest. You sat on the end of your bed as you tried to breathe.

"(Y/n), are you okay?" Jungkook questioned, walking into your bedroom. He didn't expect to find you like this, worry filled his face as he kneeled in front of you.

You shook your head as tears filled your eyes, it felt as if the walls were closing in around you.

He took your face in the palms of his hands, brushing the tears from your cheeks he pressed a kiss to your forehead. He needed you to look at him.

"Breathe with me."

You could hear him inhale deeply through his nose before exhaling through his mouth, trying to calm you down.

A few moments passed with you both breathing together, until you calmed enough to talk to him. You rested your hands over his, holding onto them tightly you pulled them to lay on your lap.

"Thank you Jungkook."

A soft smile stretched across his lips, he pressed a kiss to your lips before resting his forehead against yours.

"Anytime baby."

“She’s just like candy, she’s so sweet~”

     Too sweet for a life so divine, pouring everything into her passions yet still so uninvested in the mundane motions of her daily life. Clouds forming above her precious head while sitting in her set position right in front of her mirror, music filtering through her ears but going unheard. Somehow even after investing her every fiber, over exhausting herself, she’s still looked over seemingly as if she weren't even present in the realm of living just as everybody else seems to be. 

     Finding something so good until its whirlwind settles and the dust falls before her and she’s left sitting in front of the mirror she’s found such a comfort staring into. Girls so made up and over the top seem to gain the glory but a girl too introverted yet seeming to give so fully and quick even to those so undeserving. A perplexing thought she wonders day in and day out in front of that same damned mirror. Repeating the same portion of each day over and over.

    So over exhausting but what else can she do in a life so withheld from her own grasp.
