i genuinely don't know why people feel so good about engage having the "first fully bisexual cast." no paired endings and the few supports where it's relevant get treated like it's a fun quirky thing instead of, you know, a serious topic. letting alear s-support someone isn't satisfying because every alear support conversation boils down to "divine one i worship you uwu". not to mention that the s-support system lets you marry your own fucking sister (the localization team tried to censor it but it still reads as romantic). truly groundbreaking stuff for the "first queer fe game."
if we chant "the first queer fe game" enough times we can force ike to jump out of his grave with a tellius remastered edition

The intro of Engage chapter 7 is just Awakening chapter 3 but worse

this is probably a not finding the right blogs issue but i genuinely feel unwelcome by the general fe tumblr community. sometimes it feels like you have to be a fan of every single game (except houses which you must feel neutral towards at best) to be part of the platform's 'general' fandom. not liking non-houses titles (especially the 3ds ones) seems to be generally frowned upon even if you avoid spreading negativity to the best of your ability. most fe fans i've found on this site seem to genuinely be under the impression that disliking any non-houses title makes you a fake fan. it feels like the less mean sibling of the elitism of back in the day, with an added layer of criticism deflection and wrapped on bootlicker (except towards the one game it's cool to criticize because normies like it) paper
(for context, i've played every single game from 4 all the way to engage, and used to be active on twitter way back in the day)
tbh it's better trying to find a few people to talk about the games you like instead of relying on this site's sense of community. i know how it feels bc i've played since i was a teenager and witness this exact elitism phenomenon occur with literally every game that comes out so it's really only a matter of time before it dies out again when intsys puts out a really standout game that people will obsess over

Why is no one talking about the fact that the new Marth duo "may or may not appear again in a summon event held in the future"? Disgusting to see IntSys pull this shit and extremely weird that the fanbase isn't talking about it.
had to do a little bit of browsing the youtube channel but for context:
this the disclaimer tagline for any special heroes:
Tumblr media
this is what the mythic/legendary info looks like usually:
Tumblr media
and now here's the latest mythic banner:
Tumblr media
so what we can see here is that marth/caeda don't fall under the same categorization as the monthly heroes due to being a duo and may not be subjected to be put on the monthly schedule at all (however, i did not check if it has changed as of now). whether or not this is trying to induce more FOMO may be too soon to call

To add to what admin said: Julia came from the same relationship as the Fire Emblem antichrist. You Know people are going to use that as an excuse to justify it.

ngl the whole "oh with how bad the Fates fandom was about incest imagine how much worse the FE4 remake is gonna make it" spiel doesn't really make much sense to me, Fates is way more flippant about that stuff. Incest in FE4 directly causes the second coming of the antichrist who has children hunted in his name, while Fates Birthright will literally sacrifice its own titular premise for a "nah it's fine doesn't count go for it"
Or you start to bring Corrin marrying second gen into it and you can do even more fucked up things to the Hoshidian royal family tree where everyone involved (except Ryoma) is working under the assumption that you're still very much blood related and that's just an intended part of the game.
fe4, fe14, and even fe13 don't have a prevention mechanic when the player pairs cousins together and in fact doesn't even care about canon cousins getting together (lucina & owain and asugi & midori were censored in localization for this reason) since cousin marriage isn't as stigmatized in japan. when it comes to siblings they DO try to prevent it as much as they can such as programming seliph to not gain points with juila (which unfortunately got exploited via a workaround) or the whole letter in fe14 from mikoto (terrible execution from start to finish) but it still falls flat at the end of the day because there's still going to be ppl into it as long as the dev team doesn't put their feet down and say this is gross. they have to rework the relationship systems or take it out entirely instead of coddling the player if they want to discourage the majority of fans from normalizing it

Hey, I'm the anon from yesterday. Happy to hear my submission made sense lol.
People making it seem like the issue with incest shipping wasn't that bad will never not be funny to me because, as I mentioned on my previous ask, it's easy to disprove it. If you go on any social media page that doesn't tend to drown old content the way Tumblr does, or if you browse blogs that were active during the peak Fates era, you'll easily find Corrin x Royals content. If I recall correctly, about 3 or 4 of the most popular ships up on AO3 are Corrin x Royal, and I wouldn't be surprised if the non top 10 pairings weren't far behind the top 10.
There's also a large amount of Corrin x Azura shippers in the fandom who for some reason try to justify their ship by saying that the line where their blood connection is revealed is throwaway and thus not canon (it's not even throwaway because iirc they drop it at the same time as the reveal of Corrin being Vallite royalty), or that Pellucid Crystal decanonized it (it didn't - showing that relationship in the family tree would've made things messy, and even if it had, FEH recanonized it some time later). I get that being open about shipping this shit might not be the best look, but if you feel the need to justify it at least come up with an excuse that makes some sense and/or doesn't ignore part of what little lore the game has.
And that bit about weird incest movements cropping up after Fates... real. First with Houses and whatever the Byleth and Rhea stuff is, and now with Engage, Veyle (the localization did an okayish job scrubbing it, but the S-support was 100% intended as romantic in the Japanese version) and the alternate dimension shenanigans. I dread for the day the Genealogy remake drops.
Unrelated to the rant but thanks for keeping your inbox open for this stuff. The only other FE discourse blogs I know of are either dead or don't allow for negativity of this game, and I really appreciate having a corner on the internet where I can just Scream about it. I have a bit of nostalgic attachment to Fates as it was the first FE I ever played, but boy is it flawed and boy does the fandom (especially on Tumblr) dislike to see negative posts about it.
yeah im with you fearing what could possibly happen should fe4 be remade unless they have to do some serious overhauling about the bloodlines and character relationships (though i think nintendo is probably going to let intsys slide by like usual considering that unicorn overlord flat out has a possible cousin marriage and that was completely intact on the switch version)
anyways anyone's welcome to vent here about fandom experiences as long it sticks to the rules about no personal namedrops 👍 i like reading "hater" takes as much as constructive ones

Feel free to not publish this if you feel like it could be extremely controversial/uncomfortable but I find it funny how the new-gen Fates fans have to insist that no fans of that game ship incest because like. The Fates fandom was literally founded on incest shipping. Like, I get disliking and even despising incest ships (I dislike them too so they're not alone on this), but if you dig deep enough (which is... not that deep tbh) and/or browse old blogs you'll find out that many of those ships are among the most popular, barring stuff like Leokumi and Caminoka. The stuff was popular in the past and still has some relevance, and claims like the one I described above seem ignorant at best, and attempts of trying to lull people who dislike this shit into a false sense of security when joining the community at worst. This is even worse outside of Tumblr, where it seems like every single vocal Fates fan goes around spreading this narrative and surprise surprise, they ship this stuff. For some it might not be a big deal, but for others it can be extremely upsetting and put them off from interacting with the fandom (both the Fates fandom and the FE fandom in general).
I don't know man, the fact that people are trying to hide this skeleton in the fandom closet doesn't seem right to me, especially considering that the closet in question is easily accessible for everyone. (It's late at night and I'm not feeling particularly merciful so I apologize if I'm not making much sense)
nah you're fine this makes sense to me. one of the most foundational games of the franchise was an "accidental" incest simulator so it's really funny that people try to say it wasn't That bad with the fandom when there's always been some weird incest movement cropping up even in games after fates

I wish I were a fire emblem character so I could have an incredibly dedicated fanbase who could torture me, and the one anti fan who’d despise me until the sun burns out.
Also I’d like to wield a sword

I'm not sure if this is in topic for the blog, but my take is on the nuclear side of things (at least by Tumblr standards), so here it goes: I struggle to put my finger on what makes me dislike Engage's story so much, but honestly, that might be because there's no such thing. Engage feels like a scramble of ideas with no point other than being a 60+ hour long advertisement for a mobile game. I'm almost tempted to call it cynical, but the game is completely sincere about the pile of shit it's serving its players.
can i shill my favorite video essay to you then
