“Star Wars would be so good if it was good” is personal to me because I started out as a Star Wars hater, but I strongly believe that if you’re going to hate something you have to do your due diligence and make sure you understand it first, so I did a lot of research to make sure I understood Star Wars just as well as any fan, but during that process I started to get it, cause like, The potential really is there. You learn about all the background context that never makes it into the movies and it’s actually so interesting, and you realize that for some reason all the interesting stuff in Star Wars happens outside of the movie plot lines. And the world building is a shit show because they’re trying to do hard world-building on a soft world-building foundation. So it’s convoluted and messy and characters do things that make no sense. But so many hundreds of people have put their heart and soul into making this sandcastle of a story hold together, because they see the potential of it under all the rubbish, and if you look at it for long enough eventually you see it too, and you just can’t help but think “Damn. Star Wars would be so good if it was good.”

It was cocky and overconfident to call the Titanic "unsinkable" but one thing that's overlooked is that she was genuinely really, unusually solid. She could float even with 4 compartments fully flooded, which even a lot of modern day ships can't do.

And it's not like they were wrong about her being solid! Olympic, her identical sister ship, survived being torpedoed and then running over the U-Boat that fired that torpedo. Those ships were solid.

It's very clear that absolutely no other ship in 1912 would have been able to survive that collision, and it's a testament to the quality of the ship that she didn't sink in a few minutes Empress of Ireland style. Part of what makes the Titanic such a tragic story is that it isn't a group of rich idiots locking themselves in a shoddy iron barrel to go 4km underwater. It was 2200 people, most of whom were poor immigrants, on a reliable ship on a commonly-made journey, and then something went horribly, unpredictably wrong.

🇳🇱haribo gummy bear recall in the netherlands due to marijuana contamination🇳🇱

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) confirmed cannabis contamination in kilogram bags of Haribo’s Happy Cola F!ZZ candy, prompting a nationwide recall. The discovery followed reports that multiple members of one family became ill after eating the product. The contamination first came to light after the family reported their symptoms to police. The NVWA took samples of the candy, which tested positive for cannabis. The exact cause of the cannabis contamination remains unknown.

I think the big takeaway is that assuming you can tell if someone is queer just by looking at them and should exclude them from the community if they don’t seem “queer enough” to you is not only absurd but is also the logic of homophobes/transphobes.

reminder that "allies welcome" was once secret code for "those not out yet can still participate without putting themselves at risk", and for those who aren't out yet to comfortably exist in these spaces you have to let allies exist in those spaces too.

anyway you should always remember that all those foreigners you see dying on the news are just as real people as you are who have just as much interiority as you do. there is nothing about you that makes you more important and it is by pure chance that you are not in their position. in fact, this holds for all of history. every person, no matter the horror of the fate that befell them, had just as much interiority as you do. i feel like some people haven't fully internalized this.

It's amazing how much of our knowledge of "animal behaviour" is based on very old studies that just went "we half-starved these animals and put them in a tiny box together and just assumed that whatever they did reflects their natural behaviours and social structures"
