A committee has been chosen by the Judiciary to set new regulations affecting all courts concerning cash bails and bonds. The committee will be chaired by High Court Judge Jessie Lessit. Findings should be reported within 3 months.

Unlawful Bail Bond Practices Charged
Marvin Morgan, a bail bond agent, has been charged of alleged numerous violations of the Consumer Protection Law. This was announced by NYC’s Department of Consumers Affairs (DCA). Several insurance and management companies have also been charged for engaging in unlawful trade practices that targeted vulnerable New Yorkers. An investigation of the DCA revealed that Morgan, who owned and operated several bail bond agencies, had been imposing illegal fees without providing copies of documents to consumers or returning collaterals owed to them.
Morgan’s bail bond license has already been revoked by the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS).
